Hmm. The MB-tex here is just like every other MB. Same as the W222. What is crazy is that Mercedes has developed a fantastic fine grain MB-tex which looks identical to nappa leather. Perfect for door/dash panels. I am not sure why this is not used with any nappa interior car.

I'm not sure if it is but the dash looks like it has fake stitching. What tends to make me think that is the case is the arm rest has white stitching but the dash has matching grey color.

That's normal and not fake. Seems like MB chose to use contrast stitching on dash & top panels and color stitching for seat and door panel patterns. I think you are overthinking this a little

Here is our old S-Class (although this is exclusive Nappa). Different thread color on the doors.

Ok thanks. That seems more reasonable.

Yikes, the single-stitched MB-Tex on the dash isn't a great look.

I just noticed that. Ouch.

I wonder if the wood trim will feel more solid and less"hollow", some of the lower line MB's wood trim feels very thin and cheap.

As more and more details of this new car become known, along with the general “weight saving” (read “cost cutting”) measures MB is instigating across their product lines, I wouldn’t be surprised if the wood trim is a hologram. Seriously though, from that first day, when we all saw that lavish, Hollywood inspired, “CinemaScope” presentation of the W223, my feelings about it have plummeted, as I see photos of the new car “in the wild.” I believe my first thoughts were along the lines of “New car! Me want!” Now, I’m wondering if I’ll still want one, because it will drive so smoothly & quietly, but that I’ll be put off by the cosmetics, both inside and out. I’ll reserve final judgment until I get to drive an EABC equipped model.

Well articulated. I too will wait for final judgement, but so far I see nothing compelling. Sure it will be a better ride and overall safer but at the same time will it dilute the luxury experience by substituting higher standard finishing for more flashy tech? Do I really need a car to turn my living room lights on? Or a disco ball screen? I'd rather take double stitching and more solid finishes

A car
Surely there must be an optional package to pay for to get leather on the dashboard, no? I agree the MB-Tex stitching looks out of place (as does the material), but this is an S class. Pay for the upgrade and that solves that problem, no?

I'm sure there will be. Can't imagine a Maybach without it, or a designo package lacking it.

I agree that leather will look better but remember that about 80% of W222 sport MB-Tex. On the W221 it was well above 90% with MB-Tex.
While not better, it is what most S-Class owners have...

Maybe I'm being picky but the lack of double stitch is bothering me...

In Europe(at least the UK) we don't have as many things standard even though RRP is equal after conversion between a SWB EU S350 and US S550, Burmester isn't standard(horrible stock system), neither is Nappa leather and other desirable options. This is my 14/15 S350 without Nappa, I had a facelift with the same spec but changed it for a Range Rover.

Thanks for sharing. I would be perfectly happy with that trim other than preferring brown wood.

IMO the tailights and rear overall look like last gen A6 A8. Then again I will probably never buy another new mass market car simply because of the interior screens that scream cost reduction and look very cheap and gimmicky - like the lcd cluster of the 80s and 90s infamously in the Lagonda and GMs.

Looks like restomods for me....
