Camera views

I traded in a 2021 GLE450 for my 2021 S580. I never thought that the Red Light Camera view that displays on the center console when you are at a red light was helpful, but since you can't (permanently) turn it off, I am trying to live with it. On mine, many times there is a rainbow glossing over the screen making the image poor, but it's the image is that is the view from the windshield. How can a 12" wide screen be better then the real view right in front of you? Why would I be watching a screen when I can see the same view without difficulty?

I also have an issue with the backup camera. In this case it is displaying a view that would be otherwise hard to see, so in theory is should be helpful, but it is almost always too dark (day or night). I have had 4 cars with a backup camera, and the new S-Class is the worst and least helpful compared to the others.

My questions to other 2021 S-Class drivers are:

Do you find the Red Light Camera view helpful?
How would you rate the front image on a scale of 1-10?
How would you rate the Backup Camera view on a scale of 1-10?

I am trying to figure out if it is as bad as I feel it is or maybe something on mine is defective. I do have the brightness up all the way for the camera views. Any other thoughts are welcome as well.

Thanks!

I believe for MY22 the vehicles no longer have them automatically on, my salesman said every '22 S or EQS he's gotten in has the feature off in the settings when they arrive. Maybe they will eventually bring that in a software update? I have had it help at one particular light I frequent in which the lights are relatively high compared to where the car is in line. While its not a feature I care for (probably more helpful in a city or Europe) I don't find myself playing with the infotainment when I drive or come to a stop, I typically just have music playing so I just let it do its thing and it goes away, there's nothing I need to see on the infotainment screen anyways when I'm at a stoplight.

I don't find the backup or front cameras to be difficult or low quality at all, maybe it is just the aspect ratio that you are not use to since the screen is taller than it is wide compared to previous MB's. I also greatly like the auto camera feature as it will bring up both front and rear views as well as corner cameras when in tight spaces.

That would be nice if they made some changes that the owners commented about.

When I have a chance I might look at another 2021 at the dealer to see if it is the same as what I see on my car.

Yea the red light camera is to make it easier to see the light when your too close. A few days ago, I was driving my wife's A7 and had to duck down the whole time the light was red because I couldn't see it sitting normal. Maybe you're camera lenses need a wipe down.

Do you find the Red Light Camera view helpful?
---No

How would you rate the front image on a scale of 1-10?
---9 to 10 image quality wise

How would you rate the Backup Camera view on a scale of 1-10?
---If you refer to the clarity and resolution, it is 9 to 10. If you refer to its usefulness, it is 8.5 to 9 for me.

Thanks for your answers. I am thinking mine might be defective. The cameras don't appear to have any shipping protection, and the dealer says it looks like others. I guess I have to check another S-Class.
