I have a friend who just got a Panamera GTS $153K. From order to delivery, here in South Louisiana, took 75 days. With no missing options. And, a V-8. How is it that Porsche can find chips and V-8s while MB can not?
Your friend is just one data point and is statistically not significant enough. But, I suppose, one can go over to a Porsche forum and see if many complain about chip shortage affecting their ordered options.
As mentioned above, Porsche total sales figure in the US is about 1/5 or 1/6 of that of MB. So, they need much fewer chips and thus are relatively less affected by the shortage?

Because each manufacturer may require more or less chips and/or has secured chips differently during the Pandemic. For example, while many manufacturers decreased their chip orders during the begining of the pandemic, BMW did not, and thus was able to stay ahead of the problem until Q4 of 2021. Another area is tech requirements. Look at the technology in your S-Class and the tech in a Panamera and its a huge difference. Things such as Active Ambient Lighting alone require 5 chips. The Porsche doesn't come with any ambient lighting, and has an option that pretty much just adds lights around the speaker grills and likely requires little chips. Porsche also sells a fraction of what MB does, 300,000 cars globally, that's less than what MB typically (chip shortage aside) sells in the US a year, let alone the 2M sold globally.
As for the V8's, that is likely a CAFE/Emissions related issue, and once again, MB far outsells a large number of V8's compared to Porsche who only offers the V8 on Panamera and Cayenne, the former of which is very low in sales numbers.

VAG and BMW are far more effective automakers on all levels. MB is a little leaguer by comparison.

Love the Panamera, especially the ST.
VAG was down ~4% for full year 2021. MB flat. I call that a tie.
VAG was down ~30% in Q4 compared with GM down 43% and MB down in the 20s. Pretty lame compared with BMW's strong increase in 2021.
BMW is in the zone, they are on a roll.

I agree the Sport Turismo is very good looking but could never get into the hatch, first or second generation.
I also think the second generation Panamera got a bit too soft. The first generation was a much more engaging car to drive with more feedback, and the electronic vents are still a nuisance.
