In any event, I drove a number of these during my test drives while shopping, although I only got two up to the speeds people are talking about here. Those two and the car that was eventually delivered were/are all what any reasonable person I know would describe as quiet at any speed. It is the quietest car I've ever owned.

Several reviews stated this was quietest car they've ever measured in their instrumented testing and this does not surprise me; it jibes with what I experience in the car.

Knowing these things leads me to believe something is broken/wrong. People posting here, by and large, are not fanboys. Most are critical of at least some aspects of this car, some are very critical.

I had a new car I took in for two complaints; wind noise located around the mirror on the driver's side and misaligned trim at the back of the driver side door and front of passenger door. They couldn't do anything about the trim without a rep looking at it so I made an appointment for a time he would be in the area.

I brought it in and the shop guys took the car for a spin while we waited for the late arriving rep and they said the wind noise was normal. The rep arrived and said the trim was within spec. I asked him to get in the car and look at it in the side mirror and then tell me if he would want to see that misalignment every single time he looked in the mirror. He agreed he would not and authorized the repair.

Where it gets interesting is when I picked up the car: The service advisor told me they replaced the trim and changed the door alignment and it sure enough looked good. What was better was that when I got out on the road the wind noise was gone too; it had been caused by the trim and/or door alignment.

Takeaways: The shop guys may not know what is normal. You have to advocate for yourself. I would get a meter and take measurements in my car. I would drive another and take measurements in that car. This will tell you if your car is normal or not and it will give you something to work with at the dealer. You'll need to go the same speed over the same road and measure in the same locations in the car. I'd measure at the front of the front door by the mirror and top back of the rear doors. Use C weighting.

Noise complaints always come down to Vulcan hearing, The Princess and the Pea syndrome, or something is wrong. It isn't all that hard to figure out which of these apply.
Wind noise is gone huh? Sounds like BS to me. Maybe the three I test drove was a dud then and you are one lucky owner. Hopefully the one I‘m picking up is as good as you claim.

Different car my friend. None of the S580s I drove made anything even close to what I'd call noise. Or anyone I know for that matter as far as noise goes. That's why people think something is up; the car is very quiet. If your hearing sounds that are significant and terrible at you say that isn't normal.

Why would he lie about his wind noise being gone?

You will hear noise from wind...its a vehicle moving through the air, its not silent, but you should not hear wind noise that is more than you would hear in any other car, it should be one of the quietest cars on the road. If it isn't, there is something wrong with it...

Why are you buying a car that you're so negative about?

I don’t know where you getting that impression. The car has wind noise from what I experienced and so as others in here. That doesn’t mean its negative. I’m buying the car because I like it and I‘m willing to overlook its flaws as there is no such thing as a perfect car.

There is wind noise, but the wind noise should be among if not the least noticeable in this car compared to other cars, if thats not the case then something is wrong with your car...that's all we're saying. NO vehicle operating at speeds over 75 MPH has no wind noise, but you shouldn't feel other cars have less wind noise than this car if the car is assembled/operating properly.

Now we are getting somewhere. Look, I will be driving this car daily at max speed between 130-220 kph on the autobahn and occasionally 250 kph so my experience will vary.

What I said is absolutely what I have always said, you just have seen fit to post some rude quip instead of actually talking to me about it.

Nobody is saying the car has no wind noise at any speed. We are saying it has the least amount of wind noise you will find in a car, or at least should be among the cars with the least.

Ok then; conversations with the irrational aren't my bag: I'll leave you to it.
