Question re: Sunroof Opening

Every time I want to open my sunroof I first have to open the sunshade. This is pretty annoying, as it requires me to swipe the sunroof control panel twice. Once to open the sunshade, wait for that to happen, and then again to open the sunroof.

Is there any way, when the sunroof and sunshade is closed, to automatically open both at the same time, like with virtually every other vehicle?

Unfortunately no. Lots of cars have similar features.

Super annoying right.. Makes me nuts. You would think you could even swipe it twice, but nope.. Need to wait until it finishes, then do it again..

I understand there could be an option to open both the shade and the roof at once but my question is why on earth do you want to open both at the same time? It should be a very rare need to open the roof at all? It is an air-conditioned car and the cabin can be cooled before entering the car (in Europe only applies to mild hybrid and hybrid models though).

It's an oversight for sure, and for those that do use it, an irritating oversight. I never once cracked the lid on my last car and expect the same ussge in this one so far my part; your not wrong.

No way to change it, its a double press/swipe regardless of Benz model.

A gesture could be added but it wouldn't solve it for those without.

That's the way MB does it. Also means you can't have the sunroof open with the shade closed, which is something I did frequently on my previous car. In that car the shade was manual, so one could open/close it independently of the roof itself. Really the sunroof and the shade need independent controls.

If you hold down on the unlock button on the fob long enough, all the sun shades, windows and sunroof will open. So a single long press so to speak.

On our E500 wagon there are slots in the manual operating solid shade that even when closed let airflow out the roof when you tilt the sunroof open. A nice feature when you want to rid the vehicle of hot air, but don't want the sun blazing in. Since the W223 shade is just soft fabric, it may get sucked out if the roof opened before the shade was fully retracted.

My Toyota Land Cruiser has a manual-slide sunshade - then power glass sunroof. Works effortlessly and this is Toyota's flagship vehicle. It also has GLASS headlights; not this crappy, cloudy plastic stuff on my MB E500.

Taking this one more step, WHY must we be forced to have the frigging glass roof in the first place? In Germany it is optional on the W223 and should be here as well. These things have been known to crack and sometimes almost “explode,” for no apparent reason, with MB most always calling it “damage,” refusing warranty replacement and telling customers to run it through their insurance company. If a customer doesn’t want the glass roof, there should be a no cost option to order the car without it.
