They are the most noticeable experience change, so people affiliate them with the $7k premium like there is no other difference or justification for value. But that's wrong, the wiring and hardware for the extra speakers and amps alone are a ton of extra work and parts. To me, the exciters are a reduction to experience, not an adder. So they stay off. My 12 yr old likes it from time to time, because it's gimmicky. The cabin sound from the 3d to the 4d is so much better, that to me it's worth $10k+. Add the servo motors for the spinning/extending tweeters at $7k and you got yourself a deal.
I definitely appreciate the amazing sound system that is Burmeister 4D. I am not an audiophile but I do have about 10 years of classical piano training and I have perfect pitch. I am actually quite satisfied with the wireless Car Play experience, I love how quickly it comes online and Siri integration. On my drives I like to listen to upbeat pop songs with heavy-ish bass and while testing out my passenger seat, really enjoyed the exciters. In the driver's seat unfortunately they are unusable and annoying as there's not much feedback through the seat and instead it's a lot of buzzing and popping. I wonder if these things are even serviceable and if the seats are designed to be disassembled for servicing things like this and massage components. I don't know if I trust the dealer to be able to do it without wrecking the seats. After they attempted to fix my friend's door handle that wouldn't pop in, the door was covered with scratches all around.

That way I keep car play for my primary phone but still get the higher quality sound. Also, SXM seems to be pretty damn clear too, much better than wireless, but doesn't have quite the punch of a direct wire connection.
Good points. This is exactly what I do to get best sound experience from the Burmester 4D. I have an old iPhone 12 Pro permanently connected via USB in the center arm rest for music and my iPhone 13 Pro via wireless CarPlay for other functions/apps.
Another advantage of this is, with the Zero-Layer update, I have somewhat more detailed control/information to USB music source than there is to the CarPlay music features/controls. (Hint: swipe up from upper right corner of zero-layer music screen to expand).

I put a check in that box without ever hearing it; wasn't a single car with the option in my area. Really hoping I'm not going to taste 6500 dollars worth of regret.

IMHO not a waste at all, especially if you're an audiophile. I regretted getting the high(est) end sound system in my previous car but not this one. The extra (about DOUBLE!!) speakers and wattage (among other things) truly make a difference in sound experience overall.

Ill tell ya, I wasnt looking for the option and certainly wouldnt have ordered a car with it. However, the vehicle I wound up buying did have the Burmeister 4D and I gotta tell you, if you like music this is a fantastic system. I don't think I've ever been in a car that had this clear, and crisp sounding audio in my life. It's remarkable what there doing in automobiles these days, and the spinny lit up tweeters really look cool as hell LOL. If your not a big music guy, I wouldnt waste the money on it, if you do like to thump some music then you definetly wont regret it.

I usually put a check in the upgraded stereo box wherever found; love clean sound. What showed up on the various cars has always been variable; never had an upgraded Burmy I regretted I regretted but: It's nice to hear people are happy.

Strange as it sounds I'm interested in the butt-shakers. To an extent I have to keep up with my guys out there and I started to go to the gym to keep my old buttocks in the game. I first heard this really annoying music called electronica there; took a while to warm up to it but I liked the beat for my workouts and eventually started to branch out into various types exploring the genre. Didn't mark the day but at some point in there I finally had to admit I just plain liked it. To wind it down: Heavy base in a lot of those tunes and I intend to put the shakers to good use. If they work...

I would normally agree with you about wireless connections and quality, certainly Bluetooth, but wireless CarPlay uses WiFi, and should not be bandwdth constrained.

CarPlay is wifi (after a bluetooth initialization), but actually it's limited to 16bit/44kHz, which is higher than bluetooth, but nowhere near the lossless (FLAC or ALAC files) demand of 24bit/192kHz. Only USB can support that transfer speed.

If you don't like numbers, just play a handful of different types of lossless music files (country, rock, classical, etc) over CarPlay then over USB. The difference pattern emerges pretty quickly, and it's stark. That was one of the first things I did after I got the sound levels tuned.

I don't have wireless CarPlay in my S560, I use wired so I haven't tested both of them back to back. I do listen to lossless music.

With all of the increased power and increased number of speakers, how much of the sound do you hear outside of the car with the system turned up high?? Would someone in the car next to you at an intersection feel and hear your system more so than other previous luxury car systems?

Yes, they definitely can! Especially if they have windows down or are walking past. First time I noticed, I had the volume at about 80% listening to some classic Rock & Roll and noticed others looking; I became certain when a car pulled up next to me and gave me a thumbs up while gyrating to the beat!

That surprises me! I am astonished by how you can’t hear the audio outside my W222 when it’s cranked inside…

What’s the max Watt output on your W222? And how many speakers?
