Thanks for asking. Everything looked perfect. I was worried that when they took the windshield off something was going to get scratched on the dash. My service advisor said they don’t use the string / suction cup method anymore to separate the glue.

I had a GLC loner (there was going to be a little wait for an E loner so I took what was ready). It gave me a chance to compare cars. It is amazing the driving experience between the loner and my car. Just the road noise difference is night and day.

The only two extended warranties I ever buy from the the dealership finance department, are the GAP insurance and the windshield replacement.. The last 3 cars I've bought over the the last 9 years have had at least 1 windshield replaced per year like clockwork. Thankfully no GAP insurance claims. That $1800.00 the dealer charges for the factory windshield replacement warranty is chump change compared to to what an actual windshield costs X3. 3 years is the max I keep my cars.

What is the significance of that?
Does that imply using that method has a higher chance of scratching the dash?
And, did the service advisor say what method they are using now?
Just curious.

The dealership did not even ask me about windshield insurance. My car insurance covered it minus a 100.00 deductible. I wonder if car insurance puts a cap on the number of replacements. The good thing is they did not question me wanting to bring it to the dealership vs their auto glass partner (Safelite). This is a great idea, I wonder if I can add it even though it been almost 2 weeks since I leased it.

Great question. Apparently the string method has a higher chance of scratching leather dashes. Plus they have to puncture thru the adhesive at first to get the string started. She was not 100% sure how they did it now. Typically, the **** dentist in me wants to know exactly how everything works. I showed up a few minutes after my advisor was supposed to be off. She was kind enough to stay a bit late for me. I wanted to respect her time and not pepper her with questions (although I wanted to). I’ve been with the same dealership for over a decade and get amazing service. I knew that no matter what it would be perfect.

I did get to take another look at the matte red 4x4 squared G-Wagen they had for sale. It could be your for a measly 600k (well not right away, apparently there is a recall on the, now).

Great! Yeah when I have had the dealer do windshields the result is great. Don't ever go to one of those Auto Glass places.

I actually like those GLCs, I get them as loaners too. They're zippy, fun, reasonably luxurious...

Sorry for being off topic. I love those floor mats with the white piping. Do you mind sharing where you got them? Thanks

Does Safelite even make or offer an “equivalent” windshield that is sound insulating and IR reflective?

I did not bother with anyone besides the dealership. My salesperson ordered me a windshield and insurance paid for it minus the $100 deductible.

Yeah, the only reason I asked is if my insurance tried sticking me with Safelite, I would insist on at least an equivalent to equivalent (which is my right) and if Safelite doesn’t offer one that is IR reflecting and sound insulating, well, there’s only one other choice.

Anyone have any experience with State Farm? I have a zero deductible comprehensive but I don’t believe I have any glass adder. I don’t even think they offer it, but I haven’t looked.

I was worried about that as Mercury uses Safelight as their "preferred" glass company. However, I told the adjuster I was going to the dealership. I was expecting a fight and they did not say a word. For this car, I only wanted OEM glass.

It's unfortunate to hear about the cracked front windshield on your new 580. I've been through similar situations before. Based on my positive experience with windshield repair, I recommend considering experts like Colorado Chip in Denver. They specialize in windshield repair and replacement, and their skills might align with your needs. You can learn more about their services at Colorado Chip - Windshield Repair Denver. Ensuring a job well done is essential, especially for newer vehicles like your Mercedes-Benz S560. Wishing you a seamless resolution to the windshield issue!

I'm so glad that I read this post today. At the recommendation of many here, I called Geico to see if they replace with OEM windshields. They do NOT. What's worse, is they won't allow me to add a rider to my policy to cover OEM. I've been with Geico for years, but now it's time for me to switch providers.

Just called and am in the process of switching to Amica for both home and auto insurance. Not that much more than Geico.

Good choice. Amica isn't usually the cheapest but when you need them, they actually pay. GEICO, well, they've got a cute lizard, may or may not pay, and consider duct tape and coat hangers OEM equivalents.
