I would think having a nice ride was the selling point of full-size RR?
RR didn't downgrade a thing. The BMW just stepped it up.

I've driven a bunch of X7s, they ride nice but not as nice as the Range Rover. I'd be shocked if the new RR didn't ride as well as the old one. The X7 is dynamically better than the RR, but the RR is a softer cushier vehicle.

Well, just driving X7's really doesn't mean a thing. Which version (over the years) and which options are installed will make the world of difference. The older X7's were terrible and known as the worst driving BMW SUV's. Likewise, MB has multiple suspensions for their cars as well. Just comparing models isn't sufficient.

In this case just drive a loaded M60i...

I've driven a bunch of X7s in different configurations as I seriously considered getting one. Ive driven them with all the suspensions. I haven't driven the refresh, but I would imagine its very similar. None of them ride as nice as a Range Rover or S Class. "older X7s"? The vehicle has only existed since 2019. They were not terrible, what made them the "worst driving BMWs" is why I liked them, they are softly sprung and comfort oriented.

I know it sounds crazy but I'd take a Lincoln for a spin. One of the two in the middle might be the right sizing...

We considered buying a 2019 x40i when they came out and the body roll was terrible. Absolutely loved the interior though (Ivory White/NightBlue Full LeatherMerino) with the 2nd row captain chairs. Then we drove a 2022 M50i and that suspension was much better; both with 22" wheels...
But you are right, I am not a fan of having the ride too soft.

I also found the body roll awful. I felt sick in the passenger seat of the X7.

I see, that is a benefit of having competition, consumers win.

True and as mentioned, options included but not limited to tires definitely makes a difference.

Obviously, if you want the best ride you would not get 23s.
Thanks for including these details explaining why the ride quality of the RR might be close to an S-Class.
