Has anyone else received the new Google Places crap that come up on main screen every time at start up? IF so, did you figure out how to disable it? It’s annoying and I do not even know what the use is for and how to use it.

I saw it the other day also, it also said do you see the Graphical Goodies. I thought it was just some daily graphical goodies that was shown. I have no clue WTF it is

 

I will take a photo of the main screen today, when I get in the car. Like DoctorDash, it keeps displaying balloons at start up, and the have you seen the graphic goodies com on every time at start up. With that message would stop coming up.

 

I still cannot figure out WTF it's for. I was in the car last night and saw it again. The weird thing is the very first time I saw it, not only was it on the main screen it was also in my 3D Instrument cluster. I said to myself, don't tell me there gonna start sending ads across the car, I was about to flip out. However, I haven't seen it again in my instrument cluster, only the main screen.

 

Well I went in car yesterday and the messages was gone. I guess they had it set to display for a couple of days. Glad it’s gone but still don’t know what it’s for and how to use. Don’t really care as it seems to be some gimmicky type options they added.

 

The way the message in the connect app described it they have integrated Google Maps info into POI's, so you'd be able to see things like reviews.

Don't know how it's supposed to play out in the car as I haven't tried it.

 

Huh.. I think I might have seen that but didnt pay too much attention. Already I know we have Yelp reviews, i see them all the time with pics and phone/address/reviews.

On another note: can we display satellite navigation maps natively in our car or must it be through Google Maps via CarPlay?

 

When in navigation open up it's settings, the option is in there.

luckily my idiot Ukrainian Benz is idiot enough to get no internet connection haha. It got the lte module but no response whatever none of the services work 🫤

 

Found it. It wasn’t apparent at first where that setting was and, more importantly, it worked. I turned on the same setting for my GLE and it never worked no matter what I did.

 

You've likely already done it, but if not; a thorough menu dive is worth doing with this car. High probability, you'll find something you didn't even know you wanted to find.

A lot of people find that tedious but only because they don't know how to do it right. The trick is a generous pour of red wine. You take that into the car, crank up the tunes, and start clicking through every menu item. Don't spare the wine, and you'll find yourself having fun in no time. In fact you may want to bring the bottle with you in case a refill is necessary; there's quite a bit of clicking through a good many pages.

Or Google Maps nav settings in Apple CarPlay?

While in the navigation map, there should be a car icon in the upper left corner area. Press that and another menu comes up and you should see a settings button on the bottom right of that pop up screen. It looks like a torx screw. The slider for satellite should be in that settings menu. I’m not sure how it’s getting the image data as I don’t have any data plan connected yet but it’s working.
