Need advice purchasing donut SPARE WHEEL for my Trail Expedition

Hi everyone

Was looking to purchase a small spare wheel for my next 12000 mile road trip. Found these 2 items that are NOT FROM MBUSA, and am hesitant to order, not knowing if they will be a good fit for the vehicle. Has anyone had any experience with purchasing a donut spare wheel for their S580?

These are the 2 items I found:

1. https://modernspare.com/product/2013...e-kit-options/

2. https://ez-sparewheel.com/products/2...es-Benz%20S580

You keep asking for advice on this and that, which is fine. I’m pretty much outspoken on the whole “no spare/run flat tire” subject and feel very strongly that not equipping EVERY passenger vehicle with a spare is lunacy. That said, my opinion is that doing what you are doing, in the vehicle you are using is also LUNACY! Virtually every issue or obstacle you have asked for advice on, could have been avoided by using a vehicle that was much better suited for this adventure of yours. It would have made the trek that much easier—in my opinion. Using an S Class certainly can be done, but the question is SHOULD it be?

The biggest concern for a non-specific W223 spare is clearing the front wheel calipers. I have a W221 compact spare that I carry in my trunk. It was fine in all of my W222’s, but it will not clear the front calipers on the W223’s. I still carry it, but if I was stranded with a flat front tire, I would put a rear wheel on the front and the spare in the rear. Best of luck to you and I’ll leave you with one last thought: RANGE ROVER!

Thank you for always replying and offering advice! Much appreciated.

The treks I plan to do (if you saw the pictures) are 99.9% paved roads and .1% of the miles are non paved. Gravel, Dirt, small rocks... nothing ANY CAR should not be able to traverse.
If anyone did the 19 mile MONUMENT VALLEY NATIONAL PARK trail, in UTAH - that trail is the limit of the "off road" my S-Class is expected to perform. That trail is driven by all types of sedans, even mini coopers.
It is one of the roughest trails driven during my last 12,000 mile adventure.

Up in northersn Canada - There were only 2 times - where I had to STOP - and assess that the terrain is not worth the risk of getting stuck and I turned 180 degrees.

So it makes sense for the 99.9% of the "drive" time - to use what I already own and paid for, AND what offers me the smoothest, safest and most reliable ride. The W223 !

Last month - I thought as you did, and decided to maybe TRADE IN the S-class for another SUV, and test drove many SUVs - but they all drove harsh compared to the W223.

I purchased one from EZ spare wheel. Haven’t had to use it but, a friend of mine who purchased it as well did have to use his one time and had no problems. It was a front wheel as well he had to put it on. They provide you th slug nuts and hub ring also.

I drove Nissan cars from the 80's-00's. Your trek reminds me of their slogan, "Enjoy the Ride." Sounds like fun!
