Does anyone have experience with the extended warranties from Endurance?

Don't do it. This car is a piece of crap. I've been to the dealer 6-7 times so far for both electronic gremlins and crappy squeaks and rattles in the interior. All in the first 18 months of ownership. My dealer now charges something like $250/hr for labor. Run!

He wasn’t asking about your car. He was asking about extended warranties. Speak for yourself, I’m an S-Class owner. Always have been. Always will be.

Original post was about buying an S580 out of warranty, not about extended warranties. I refer you to the title of the thread, "Advice on buying S580 4Matic out of warranty". I did speak for myself, perhaps you should
a) Do the same
b) Work on your reading comprehension

Apparently, having money does not always correlate with having a functional brain.

You’re late to the party! Keep up with the most current thread. He asked about extended warranties. If you want to refer to previous threads then do that; notice where your response falls. Additionally, then you shouldn’t probably own a MB if you don’t know what the operational costs entail. I agree with you there are flaws but this is the case EVEN IN A ROLLS ROYCE! Don’t expect perfection when you, yourself are not the standard bearer of it.

As for myself, I certainly don’t expect “perfection” in an automobile. That said, I do expect a new model of a storied vehicle like the S Class, to perform at least as good as the model it replaces. In the case of the W223 vs the W222–and now into the 4th year of production—I believe there is substantial evidence that the new model is a reasonable failure in this regard. Furthermore, it would appear that most—if not all—new MB models released post MY20 have had way more than their fair share of serious issues. Looking at the new GLC, new SL and W223 forums, there are massive problems with stories of numerous buy backs. I believe there is something seriously wrong in Stuttgart and it would appear that many others share my opinion.

Keep in mind that this forum and others like it represent a tiny fraction of Mercedes owners. The vast majority are very happy with their cars and don't have any issues.

That statement is not based in reality and has no factual basis. Perhaps the vast majority of owners are simply not participating in this forum? JD Power has a score of 78 for 2022 S580. I'd call it a far cry from "happy with their cars and don't have any issues". The score for MY' 23 drops by one point to 77.

MercedesMax: Well said, thank you for saying that. I don't try to make my S class do or be anything other than that a beautiful luxury car and I drive it as such.

JD Power is a joke. That statement is based on doing business every day with Mercedes buyers. If the product wasn't fundamentally good, we wouldn't have the repeat business that we have.

So is the 500 any "better" than the 580...?

Or are they both experiencing a lot of problems...?

I asked the sales guy at the dealership to explain to me how the S580e works.

He's probably wrong, but he said you have: 1. the engine, 2. a clutch, 3. the 48v starter/generator/motor, 4. the 9-speed transmission putting out to 5, the four-wheel-drive system.

I just sat there sort of processing that, and then envisioned what an inevitable rear-main-seal job would be like.

To be fair, Mercedes makes their stuff very good to work on. An experienced tech can have a transmission out of a w220 in about 2 hours.
It would be interesting to see what the book times are on the different variants of the w223. If you start seeing 5+ hour jobs, you know you're in for a ride.
