Hello!

I just purchased a used s580 without heated steering. I am interested in adding heating. I have searched the forums already looking for info, but haven’t found much relating to the W223. Is this a project that can be done mechanically? I have seen “heated steering wheels” for sale which I understand to mean that they have the heating element which my car may lack. Then I assume I need parts for the column, etc..

If anyone has info that might help, it would be appreciated.

Hi George, welcome to the forum. A lot of those earlier year W223's came without heated seats because of the chip shortages. I thought about buying one and adding heated seats, but it is costly and time consuming...and it requires coding of the system to add that feature. The coding alone is going to set you back more than $500. Add that to parts cost of $2K-$10K, and no guarantees it will work. That's one of the reasons I went with a 2018 S63 instead.

You might get updated information from the appropriate forum. Post your question over here: https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w223-268/

Not many people/vendor here knows how to code and also offer retrofit+coding on this forum for W223 specifically. @EleBest is a sponsor forum vendor and the only one am aware of who might help you code it if you get a new steering. His channel (link below) shows a lot of retrofit projects too. Good luck and enjoy your new S580; congrats!
