Adding Heated Steering…Help?

I just purchased a used s580 without heated steering. I am interested in adding a heated steering wheel. I have searched the forums already looking for info, but haven’t found much relating to the W223. Is this a project that can be done mechanically? I have seen “heated steering wheels” for sale which I understand to mean that they have the heating element which my car may lack. Then I assume I need parts for the column, etc..

If anyone has info that might help, it would be appreciated.

No more MB:(
Also probably require some software updates and programming. These cars are already challenged and maxed out technically, is it really worth the risk?

Reasonable question, I really like my hands warm…that’s why I am asking if anyone has done such a thing. There might be some risk, but if people have done it before, I would definitely be interested.

I could give you mine. My car has it but I never use it.

At least my car has a switch on the steering column. Difficult to say if the switch also needs to be installed, possibly additional wiring. Since steering wheel heating can be configured to work with seat heating, the switch might not be needed (would through a fault diagnostic fault code but unlikely anything on the instrument cluster).

I will check with my dealer on Monday. I have also asked my local independent MB tuning guy to investigate. I can buy heated wheel and steering column with heated switch port for about $500. I agree, that it seems like it will a manual switch -just a plastic part and wire harness connection. My tuning guy has full access to programming if necessary we will see.
