Sounds like your current best option is the GLS but then you might not want an SUV... yet
Edit: So ya... I saw this reply of yours: https://mbworld.org/forums/gls-class...ml#post8990749
This car shopping might be more difficult than expected.

It’s between three options.
1. Keep what I have and wait for this refresh
2 get an S580
3. Get a BMW i7
It will probably be #2 or #3, then a 3 year lease and if I like the 26 refresh I can get a 27.

Hmmm the refresh if it gets revealed before your lease ends, you could probably put an order in and MBFS will extend your current lease till the next delivery. That is if it gets revealed at all this year.

Not gonna be revealed by November lol. Its a 1.5 year swing, I would have to buy it out and keep it.

I see, hopefully it works out in your favour I mean it might not be a good idea to buy out the car with the intention of selling it shortly say if the refresh arrives in less than a year but like you said, 1.5 year makes sense and you never know how the market is. Things aren't exactly predictable nowadays.

Your car has already seen its worst depreciation; what does it look like buying it out? If the numbers weren't terrible, it could be a reasonable choice.
To me, it doesn't appear as though the 580 is your best choice, you've got a number of gripes, and you said some of them would drive you crazy. Sounds like a recipe for regret.
On the other hand, you're genuinely intrigued by the 7, and you wouldn't mind sampling one. Even if it did nothing more than prove you're a Mercedes man, I didn't get the impression you'd regret giving one a whirl.

Buyout is like $44k. Big thing for me is I don't want the car to be a PITA. I already had a huge valve cover repair, now its leaking oil and its back at the dealer, I just don't have the time or the energy to deal with that, doesn't mean it will continue to have problems going forward...but the last 2,000 miles have been rough.
Issue with the i7 for me is the transition to full EV...the 760 I dont like nearly as much.
I drove a nice 580 with the exclusive nappa at the dealer when I dropped mine off. They're working on numbers, if I can get it within $250 of what mine is I will probably do it. It really is a very nice car, and the exclusive nappa helps with the interior concerns. I will just have that hard plastic door threshhold trim wrapped in matching alcantara.
Its considerably quieter than the S560, and even with the runflats I think it rides at least as well, probably would not even swap them out this time. Will keep you posted.

Did the 580 have the 4.5 degree steering? I have it on mine and it makes a big difference in DC traffic.

One option could be to get them to CPO the car and then buy the extended warranty for two more years and the warranty would be unlimited mileage. If you go that route shop around for the extension you can get it cheaper.

It doesn't but I have driven them with it, its great. I'm so used to driving a huge car though it really doesn't bother me.

Are the issue you experienced common in that model and engine? Replacing a valve cover, and now an oil leak, seems pretty significant for what I would consider a newer car.

@SW20S Just a thought, and it porbably doesn’t matter to you, but I really think that your lease start and end timing is going to keep bugging you for years to come. Just like your 2020, it was just a year before W223 was released, and now the same story with the W223 facelift. It feels like each time you will end up getting a 3 years old tech car just a few months before the next generation or update is released. If I were you and if I really need to be stuck with a car for 3 years which is not my cup of tea, I would have considered closing that 1 year gap by not upgrading now, and start a lease-term next year with the facelift. It would have bothered by to get a brand new 2020 when 2021 was the year for the W223 release, and then now again a 2024 just 10-12 months before the W223 facelift is released. Just a thought. Anyway personally a new pre-facelift W223 for me now is a no no, I’d probably be okay buying a 1-2 year old pre-owned W223 if I need one now, and get the 2024 W223 next year, but even then am done with ICE cars really, unless the W223 really delivers on what Wolfman posted above (thatt is enticing enough to me along with some of the other rumored updates).

I’m taking delivery of a 24 today or tomorrow lol
The old tech doesn’t bother me actually, nor does not having the latest style. The big thing for me is wanting some value out of it, if I had waited for 21 I would have paid way more and I would have paid way more for a refresh 26 when it just came out. This deal is nearly $1,000 a month less than I would have paid for a 21 223…this way I can get a refresh car if I like it when this is up and it will be a couple years in and can get a similarly good deal. I just don’t want to be paying $2,500 a month to lease a car!
Love my 222 but it’s been in the shop 2 of the past 4 weeks trying to get this damn valve cover done right and I just don’t want to deal with that. It’s time. Hopefully I will enjoy the 223 as much as I have that.

Let me sign it to make sure its legit first lol, then absolutely! Very difficult deal to negotiate...both because of the nationwide system outage (which if you haven't heard about it, google it!) and the difficulty in getting dealers to be interested in any deal with a significant discount even on cars with 6+ months of lot time.
Because of the system outage its like buying a car in 1995, everything is hand written etc. The poor dealer folks...

Finally a color that makes sense @SW20S ; First of all congrats - assuming you will formally sign, am sure you'll let us know... Whether that happens or not, I'd be really curious to know why you passed on the i7 and went with the W223? Was getting a lease term with the payments you want also the main factor or was it other stuff you found out later? From your posts I always thought you were set on the i7 as an EV being the best car from your previous posts. I already made my mind to pass on both, pre-facelift W223 and current i7. I'll have to see the facelift in 2025 or i7 LCI with some design changes later before I pull the trigger.

I really went back and forth. The big downside to the i7 was just traveling in it, I travel in my car several times a year and the infrastructure just isn't there yet. 760 vs S580 I prefer the ride and drive of the S580, so if it was a 7 it would have to be an i7. On top of that, there is just something about the S Class I wasn't ready to give up yet. I prefer the more conventional styling, although I like the new 7 also. This one has exclusive nappa so that will help bridge the interior difference. I love looking down the hood at the three pointed star...
Leasewise I am paying $300 a month or so more than I would have for an i7. I also prefer to do a deal on a car I can get now vs waiting for an order. This is by far the best deal I have been presented for an S580 in the months I have been shopping and looking, and the only thing I would have spec'ed differently on this one is it has no spoiler (easy to fix) and I would have gotten the 20" multipsoke wheels, this has the 19" 5 stars.
This will undoubtedly be my last ICE car though. In 3 years I am very confident travel in an EV will be no big deal.
