I would never spend $150k on an S Class because the differential between my cheap S and a more expensive one isn’t worth it to me. But, I would consider it for a 911 because there is a demonstrable difference.
Mmm, can't agree there. There are several options in a $150k build S Class that make the car a lot more enjoyable. Exclusive nappa interior for one, does your car have warmth and comfort and the power rear seats for instance? Thats another. The 4D Burmester audio is another. Outside of that, IMO the options don't do much for me, I'm not a HUD guy but if you are you will want the 3D HUD package. But an S580 optioned with those options is $150k. Mine lacks the 4D Burmester and the 3D HUD package and my MSRP was right at $140k.

It’s just a personal preference for me and what I prioritize. This S class was a stretch for me to begin with when it comes what I normally spend. I’m happy with the I6; it suits me just fine for this car.

It’s a stretch for anybody lol. I never thought I would spend this amount of money on a car. Then the 560 I thought that would be the most expensive car I would ever buy. Well, here we are lol. You’re in it now!

It’s not the V8 really it’s the options. I am much happier with the additional options my 580 has vs my quite low package 560.

In reality once you’re spending $120,000, the stretch to $140 or $150 isn’t that huge. I’m paying $300 a month more for a $20k more expensive car, you don’t even notice.

I was initially shopping around for the '25 E53 AMG
It was right around $114k for a fully loaded one with all the performance options, bells and whistles.
It's a beautiful car, but then I realized the E53 is neither a full-blown AMG model nor a fully luxurious sedan (less rear passenger leg room, no air suspension, noisy interior).
It's a compromise between sporty & luxury.
So I decided to spend a little more and get the top dog: S

I'm aware the MY25 is near the end of the life cycle with F/L around the corner, but I believe the current gen W223, pre-facelift will age gracefully over the years whereas the starlights will get old quickly.
Maybe I'm trying to justify my purchase, but I'm content with what I have with the S.
I'm sure I'll like the newer interior on the F/L, but I'll hold judgement until I see the '27 S exterior.

I really love the E Class wagon. Personally the star lights don't bother me, at least the taillights. The new E looks great IMO

The new E-class looks SOOOOOO good in person. I visited the Mbens dealership and sat in one of them. Tech is great, dashboard design is awesome, and frankly the car from outside looks/feels like S-class vibe!. I almost wanted to get the AMG variant. Mbenz did really really really well with the E-class, at least design wise.

I saw an E53 for the first time on the street today. It looks a lot better in person. Has good presence.

Yes, and the interior is put together better than the W223. One of my agents has one, it is totally solid inside. No creaks or rattles.

Well, to me creaks and rattles aren't something one can judge on unless he had owned the car long enough..... At least your agent did, but you never know if he has the same level of attention or OCD that you/others have for rattles. I'd be surprised if Mbens truly did major changes already for the E-class. The packaging and how the panels meet each other seemed to be very similar to the W223, but I hope it's true that Mbenz has solved the rattles issue with E-class. The GLS has similar issue; no rattles per se, but the way that panels are put together, door parts, central console, you feel that it is firm bolts torqued everywhere instead of clips against fabric surface that would have allowed for movement to absorb vibration/creaks. That's how it was in our X7 each time I had to remove a panel or so for the dashcam (fabric/soft material behind each panel and clips even in the hidden surfaces). In comparison, my GLS had a lot of bolts and plastic to plastic or metal to plastic parts touching each other behind the visible surfaces.

She's had it about 10 months, it was a very early car. I've ridden in it just the other day actually, its definitely more solid. My car is good, but I have chased the issues. if all the issues I have fixed myself were present, it would be awful.

Interesting point about the bolts vs clips. I never thought of it that way...

Frenetic, I ended up ordering the new 992.2 Targa 4S. Delivery early in the new year. Holding on to my S580 as the bugs Seem to have been sorted and I’m really enjoying the car. It is truly becoming one of the favourite cars I’ve ever had.

pretty excited about adding the Porsche for a weekend fun car. Looking forward to hearing what you finally decide.

Awesome, congrats. My dream car. But with the recent price hikes, it moved beyond what I’m comfortable paying for. Be sure to post some pics when it arrives.

I’ve narrowed down my car to another S Class or an AMG GT 55. I saw one of these at the dealership and man, they look really good and the hatchback makes this practical vs the 911.

Would love to drive and feel one of those one day. They look AWESOME especially the rear. I imagine the drive would be similar to the BMW M8 comp, which I disliked. I liked my Alpina B8, one of the finest and best enthusiastic driving experiences on the planet, but am pretty sure it’s nothing compared to a proper 992.2 911. I expect the AMG to be closer to the M8 league than a 911, but that’s just a guess.

I don't think I'd be able to get out of the AMG GT 2-door without a hoist. But the 4-door has appealed to me. Very hard to find though..

One thing I really like about the AMG GT is that it is completely analog. There’s no mild hybrid and 48 Volt system and I can spec carbon ceramics and never have to worry about doing brakes for the life of the car. It’s also a hatchback, which makes it somewhat practical. I also plan on speccing the 20” wheels as well. I intend to keep my car at least 7 or 8 years and all of the aforementioned are bonuses to that endeavor.

The only thing that gives me pause is the hydraulic anti-roll system, but I would take that over the 48-Volt system any day when it comes to long-term maintenance.

Since you tend to jump around, you know the Aston Martin Vantage is also a hatch and shares the same engine as the GT. 😉

Agreed. While the GT is a great looking car, the Vantage is on another level, in my opinion. So long as it's under warranty that is.

I’m not buying an Aston. It’s too rich for me and I prefer the large dealer network of traditional brands. The most “exotic” car I would consider is a Porsche lol.
