Speedometer Tail

Greetings....Does anyone happen to know what the function of the "tail" that follows the speedometer needle at 30 MPH and above (not sure about the upper limit before the tail disappears...). I've heard all kinds of craziness about the red marks at 35 MPH and 55 MPH, but I'm referring to the red line that appears at 30 MPH under normal accelerating/driving conditions.

That is indicating how much you are exceeding the current speed limit. It's one of the implementations that meets the EU's Intelligent Speed Assistance mandate that was recently introduced.

This is how it works in ours too. The red line appears at the speed limit and its intensity increases the more you exceed the limit.

Superswiss, you are indeed correct. I confirmed it today. SW20S thanks for confirming and QuadBenz thanks for chiming in as well.
