I like my S Class
I personally like the side profile more than the front or back of the new 7.
But maybe it’s just as well, at least for the sports car, because your young family wouldn’t appreciate it so much if, like the lack of experience and wisdom of youth, you wrap your sports car around a tree. When you get to an age where you rationally decide you shouldn’t be driving a sports car anymore, you have attained a perfect level of judgment, experience, and finances to drive one. But the strength, flexibility, vision, and slowed reflexes bring a screeching halt to that type of driving enjoyment.
Once you've had the BMW M cars then the only way to 'upgrade' to another manual transmission sports car is to move to a Porsche.
I was looking for an allocation for the 992.2 Carrera T and when the dealer asked for $10K ADM on top of the already crazy expensive MSRP for a practically 'base' Carrera, I couldn't justify it.
I guess it was time to move on from the sports cars scene. For a while at least.
I knew already that I preferred GT cars with plenty of creature comforts, so moving to the other side of the spectrum with the S was not a risky move at all.
Although I didn't get more than 2 hours of driving time in it, I'm really enjoying my S580.
Can't wait to really start driving it after I get it back from the PPF shop.
Like the 7 Series, it has a better overall interior, but the refinement isn't quite there in the ride and its so garish looking and draws so much attention. Rolls Royces are so flashy and while they ride better and obviously are more comfortable they're just so out there that they're not comfortable to drive in an ordinary everyday way, Bentleys are the same way. Something like a Range Rover is incredibly comfortable and capable and the form factor lets you go a lot of places, but they too are more showy and ostentatious. Cars like the Audi A8 and Lexus LS and Genesis G90 just feel like off brand concepts while the S Class feels like the "real deal".
It really is just a car that I feel comfortable pulling up to a 5 star hotel in, yet also pulling up to my company picnic around my employees and it doesn't feel out of place either place. And when driving it there really isn't another car that I would rather be driving. When I drove my LSs as much as I loved them I always really wanted an S Class, but now I really drive what I want to drive and its a good feeling.
I guess the best of both worlds in that case is Maybach, with the Maybach badges removed for those who want an even improved experience than the regular S-Class yet want to be more understated but honestly, with the Maybach badges, it is still very understated, only those who know will know. Unlike obviously Rolls-Royce as you mentioned very flashy.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
There is also the ostentation of it; I like to fly under the radar, and that ain't it. Even if I had more ching, I think it would still be problematic for me. Or maybe... That's just a more palatable rationalization than straight-up saying it was too expensive.

There has to be a reason why people buy Maybachs, do we know the specifics? If the comfort increase is minimal why does that still sell? I seen them a lot in Toronto, well downtown though. no I am not saying they buy it due to the V12 given that majority of Maybachs I see here is not the V12 version.
Obviously Rolls-Royce can be double the price but not Bentley. So what is the reason they buy Maybachs?
Is it really just about that it is less flashy than Rolls-Royce or Bentley? Other than obvious cost savings? I mean, the W223 S-Class is fine as it is, as mentioned.

No Maybach comes on wheels you can get on the regular S Class. People make fake Maybachs all the time, its probable thats what it was. I saw a fake one the other day, it was a regular AMG line W223 with the Maybach grille and the wheels and logos.

I see, either that or they simply had non Maybach winter wheels, well in my case at least.
