Radar Detector

Has anyone successfully installed a radar detector using a mirror tap? If so, any chance you post instructions and what wire(s) you used? Thanks!

Does it even get any reception with the infrared reflecting windshield? (near the mirror)
I think there's only 2 small spots without the coating where you could place the responders.
If my memory serves me right, it was the center bottom and top right (passenger's side)

I have my Redline 360c installed just behind the center cutout in the bottom above the dash. Even there, performance isn't great. Does a decent job of picking up state troopers out in front of me on the Ka band, but coating on all of the glass really limits picking up anything to the side of me or behind me. The detector also has a very tough time consistently picking up a GPS signal. I think if you really care that much, a custom install is the only way to go for this car. I've chosen not to since I really don't see a huge need to drive this car fast/aggressively.

My experience exactly with the 360C and my 580. I then went with the Redline Ci 360c (installed behind bumpers) with my display in the rearview mirror, not cheap but well worth it in my opinion.

I had many issues with the the GPS reception on the Redline until I put it in the upper right of the passenger side window where if you look at the right angle you can see the cutout....
I have had zero issues since then and it works great

Thanks for all the responses! I didn't know about the reception issues with the windshield! Any chance you can post installation instructions and what wire tap you used?

Yes, many have used a mirror tap for radar detectors. Typically, you’ll tap into the red (12V power) and black (ground) wires in the mirror wiring harness. Use a multimeter to confirm. Just unplug the harness, insert the tap pins, and reconnect. Easy and clean install.
