DIY OIL CHANGE

I have changed oil on no less than 30 or so cars....have yet to find one that is some nutty odd ball that gets confusing (I forget what car I recently saw that has three drains, might have been a Lambo).

Another crazy example is the average age of RR Spectre owners…. 35 years old!!!… The overall average age for RollRoyce entire lineup now is 42 years old. The average age of RR owners just 15 years ago was in the 60s!…. Look at their designs today vs 20 years ago and you can see it.

Few years back we had my 5th (decade) birthday party. We had bouncy houses and a slip-n-slide.....
Day to day, I act about 13.
So I checked what exactly I am getting for the next 3 10K services - oil, filter, wiper blades, and on one of the services, the cabin filter. That makes each service $1500 - for simple oil changes!! I usually change my own and will from now on!
Oh, for the record, one of the points above was oil changes on most cars are straightforward. Not so much on my C7 Z06. 2 sumps and a bit of a hassle. My '21 Honda Goldwing has 3 drain plugs and I have to change the DCT filter in that as well so a bit of an added headache, but nothing compared to the $$ to pay a dealer! I will do them myself, thank you! I am young enough (not as young as Steve
but plenty able to get down on the floor and do it myself! I just need to see how I can jack it or if my Race ramps that I use for the Vette will hold it - I suspect it is too heavy for them...Thanks for the shared info above - I too was wondering but it looks pretty simple. Don't think I will suck out the oil like the Korean guy did - not sure why he did that...is it mandatory?

Dealers are overcharging with those $700-1000 annual service items. My BMW dealer used to charge a flat $150 for an annual service on any of my former ICE bmw cars, which included a complimentary video inspection, topping off all fluids, and sticking to the manufacturer's service book. My Benz dealer, on the other hand, has tried to charge me $600-$900 for an oil change, along with extra items, every single time, including spark plug changes when it's not yet required. I'm convinced they'll try to add new wipers to the list even if I bring them in brand new. Honestly, the MB service manual allows them to be sneaky with the Service A and B plans, instead of "check" sometimes It states "replace" for items that you wouldn't replace until they fail, like wipers. The fuel additive is another famous Mbenz dealers trick to steal your money.
My dealer loves adding the $250 magic vision wipers to a service too...at that cost I'm using those bad boys until they wear out lol.
That said though, thats a significant investment in a garage setup to do DIY work, thats got to be something you enjoy doing to make the cost/benefit analysis make sense IMO.

I arrived on the Mayflower, so I haven't seen my 40s in two decades.
