Rustproofing/undercoating

Anyone have an aftermarket undercoating done on your s-class? We have harsh winters here in NY. We plan to keep this car a long time and want to protect it

Avoid the black tar-like undercoatings. They trap moisture and make rust worse. Look for a shop that does fluid film or NH Oil treatments. It's a wax/oil spray that creeps into seams. You need to reapply it every fall, but it's the best real protection for salted roads. Totally worth it for a long-term keeper.

MB’s of all kinds.
Where in NY are you? What I would do is find a touch less car wash near you that you can use weekly. Make sure it has the undercarriage wash as well. Keep it garaged and washed weekly. Have only had 1 MB rust. That was a W202 C Class.

I have experience with fluid film, surface shield and some of the waxes. What are your questions? These cars come fairly well coated in wax but falsity winters can wear it away quickly. On an sclass, id do all exposed metals in cosmolene or metal protectant (amsoil), and all interior cavities with fluid film. The fluid creeps into seams and the wax will stay dry and attract less dirt. PM me for specific questions if you want. Although md doesn't have as much salt, it's still a rust state and my ungaraged cars are completely mint top to bottom, including an o6 lx, known to be susceptible to rust. Coatings every year and washing off salt each time the temp goes above freezing during the winter.
