I have owned 13 MB including 8 S Classes over the last 35 years. I am in the process of ordering a 2027 S580. I have two question I’m trying to decide and would appreciate some thoughts on both issues:
1) Tire size - years ago I had 20” wheels and found the ride rough and bent rims once. So, I went back to 19” wheels and was very happy. I’m now going to get the E active body control option to improve the rider. The 20’s look better and probably handle a bit better, but wondering about the ride. I live in the Philly area where rough roads are not uncommon.
2) AMG vs non AMG. Not sure what the benefit of the AMG line is (for 2027 it’s a no cost option) other than some AMG logos on the mats and slight body style changes. What am I missing?

As with all non-AMG models, AMG Line is largely a bunch of cosmetic stuff to make the car look more similar to an actual AMG in this case the S63. The only AMG worthy upgrade the package adds is the upgraded Sport brake system with perforated front discs, but quite frankly, even that is mostly cosmetics as you will like never drive the car in a matter where perforated discs make a difference. Just like large 20" wheels it's more vanity than anything else on a car like this.

Basically you’re paying $4,300 for 19” wheels that aren’t anything to write home about, and a sport brake system that you’ll most likely never put to use. The floor mats simply just say AMG on them, and you’ll never notice the pedals. The body styling is the only attractive option here, and it’s rather subdued. So if that’s worth it to you, then spring for it.
