Possible to get an S55 AMG <35000?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if it was possible to get a 2000 up s55 for under 35000. If it is possible, what kind of mileage could I expect? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Mileage would have to be pretty high. I saw a 2001 S500 with 86k miles selling for around $34k. Also, would you really want to pay for the maintenance on a high mileage S amg? That will really hurt. You cant settle for a S500 or E55??

i prolly could, i just want the extra zip that comes with the amg. I was also thinking about getting a 2001 750il (V12) that may get the job done. What do you think about the bmw?

The updated 7 series look soo much better than the 2001-2005 IMO. It doesnt look much different but it looks really really good. The only problem with the 7 series is they have major electrical problems. I have test driven the 745 and it is very slow compared to my CLK 430. The salesman told me there were just software problems with the 7 series and that problem has been resolved. I honestly dont know. You know if I were you, I would hold off on getting a new car right now. The new S-Class is comin out soon and I would wait till that comes out so the price drops even more.

very true..... Im talking about the prev. gen 7 series, the non-ugly one, the v12 in it seems to pack a little punch, but i'd prolly be getting a car after the next gen s comes out, so hopefully the price will drop somewhat.... Btw, what kind of price drops can we expect in s classes when the new body style comes out???

The BMW 7s are unnecessarily complex. I drove an '05 several months ago and it was tough just getting it started. It drove great, but interior controls and functionality require too much effort.

With that said, the 430 may be faster off the line (I don't know) but it's not even in the same class as the 7 series Bimmer--especially the 750.

Ya I know. But for someone looking to get an S55 AMG, they obviously want a fast car. Which is faster, CLK 430 or S55. Obviously the S-class off the line and on the role. I was just letting him know it is not a fast car. As for complexity, ya too had a problem turning it on but it just take getting used to. As for technology, it is one of a kind and personally, I love the new 06 beamers. Would I drive one? Not as a primary car but that's because I too am looking for that "extra zip" and would much rather take an M3 or a 7 series. Then again I am 20 yrs old and have no one to drive around.

the 2000-2002 S55 didnt come with the supercharged motor. Although i believe that 55 did have a slightly more powerful motor than the 500, it still was slow in its time compared to, oh lets say a e39 M5. If you want a fast car for under 35grand and is still a luxury sedan, i highly recommend getting one of those. I've seen a number of them go for 30-35grand, since im also in the market of getting one as a daily commuter.

I have no idea what kind of M5 you were looking at but a few months ago when I was looking for buy an M3, the prices for a 2001-2002 with 25-30k miles was between $35k-40k. You must be looking at a very high mileage M5 which is not a good idea IMO.

scarzie, if I were you, I would either get a E500, 540, or S430-500. There is no point in buying an M or AMG if you're going to buy one with high miles. Maintenance is very pricey. The reason I didnt get a CLK55 (which I wanted soo badly) was because I want to keep my car for some time to come. I have about 50k miles on my car and looking to sell it with 90k miles hopefully for around $20k and will be getting a CLS 500 (Grad present from dad). Selling a 90k mile AMG would have a very hard time selling compared to a 320 or 430.

yeah, you're right. the ones ive been loookin at are around 50k miles. its not all that bad actually, just have to find one thats well maintained. and, the purpose of mine is to be a daily commuter/beater so im not all that concerned with mileage since i know im gonna be racking up alot of it myself.

...........maybe too late, but a 2000 to 2002 E55 is an incredible bargain. You can get one for around $27K.
