Glauser didn't sell their two for 20k over MSRP on eBay so now they're listed for 10k over. My money says they won't sell for 10k over, either. For a number of reasons, including the 52% 24 month residual, this is a hard car to move.
Of course they are going to charge premiums on the top of the line edition of newly redesigned flagship Mercedes. This cannot be done with high volume production vehicles such as the S Class. But ordering a vehicle for MSRP and paying MSRP and then selling it for a premium price, that can be done with exotics. Imagine ordering an Enzo a few years in advance and paying MSRP for it. Then, flip the car for a massive profit. I remember back in '03 when Enzo's were selling for up to $1.8 million. Nothing like making $1.15 million in one transaction.

Yes, that is unfortunatly common practice with exotic cars, but you aren't able to do this as well as you would say an F430, the S65 will be purchased on the fact that it is as you said, the MB AMG flagship sedan, these cars are known to drop by the minute in value and will not stand the test of time as a car this expensive can look nearly the exact same as a S550 Sport and will be shoved down dealer's throats. The F430 is such a hard car to come by, my friend has purchased three brand new V8 Ferraris in the past five years from a single dealer and has been on the waiting list for two years and should have a Spider by summer of '07, the reason being is the dealer has said they need to get the first available cars into the hands of their more common customers, say clients that buy a new $200K car every year, you can do that in a Ferrari V8, not in an AMG S-Class, they are superb cars, but anyone buying a new one better not give a flip about value and should pay cash without blinking an eye, this car is too expensive for being an S-Class sedan, yes they are pinnacle automobiles, but previous sales records speak for themselves.
Oh s**t, sorry guys, I didn't mean to pull this one out of the grave.
