Glad you like it !!! Lets' see the new IC pump upgrade for Ben's car. Hopefully we can see better trap times and 1/4 times.
I installed the ECU and the airbox a few weeks apart.
The difference the ECU made was amazing and worth every penny.

Running 100-octane has no downside, except for cost. Running too low an octane can damage an engine if it causes detonation, but too high is not a problem. On the other hand, using a higher octane fuel than the engine is designed for is just a waste.
Higher octane is called for by higher compression and more advanced ignition timing. Forced induction engines have the higher effective compression, and modern engine-management programs with knock detection and multiple timing maps can "use" the higher octane. I was happy to learn from Roger (and confirm with experience) that the S65 ECU has the range to benefit from 100-octane fuel. I don't know about other engines. I wouldn't expect any normally aspirated engine to get much benefit. Supercharged 5.5s might. Since it won't hurt, it's worth a try.

I was running BFG drag radials.
I seem to recall them being 275/35/18
I installed the ECU and the airbox a few weeks apart.

The car runs fine on 91 octane, however it seems to pick up quite a bit of power on 100 octane.
For example, the day I ran the 11.29, the car was trapping about 112-114 MPH on 91 octane, then I added 5 gallons of the 104 octane sold at the track, and the air temperature dropped by about 20 degrees. Then the car began to trap 122 to 124 MPH.
What a difference good gas and cold air can make!

Thanks my friend
what was your time on stock tires and car before having it done by Renntech? if you have taken it for a run
i really would like to know the figures and numbers you know i have the S65 W221 and i am planning to have it done, and i am trying to get some figures out so i would know how its going to performe, we dont have 100 octane gas around here but i am running 98 Octane gas full time, plus i am also planning to get rid of the cat's what do you think?
any info for my cause would be very appreciated
thanks

Whooever,
Did you buy the gas at the 76 station on Almaden expressway near capitol?
You should try to make it to the track with me and Treynor the next time we go.
I expect that will be in the 2nd half of november for me.
I'm glad you enjoyed the difference the 100 octane made. It feels like a night and day difference to me, however with the renntech chip it will make an even bigger difference.

However, before the renntech upgrades on 91 octane, I seem to recall my best time being 11.5 at around 118MPH, when I am back in California I will see if I can dig up a time slip from that. I'm sure the 98 octane gas you are using is way better than the 91octane garbage they sell in most of California.

I never raced it at the track without using real tires. I didn't see much of a point in doing quarter mile burn outs.

it makes sense with the tires well i hope soon i will be doing my car maybe sometime next month and i hope it will run somewhere close to what you are running now
the only thing is i will do it with MKB most probablly and have been promised some nice figures and the only reason i will do it with them cuz i will not lose my warranty i am looking forward

Roger,
Yes, Almaden and Foxworthy. I just returned from Anaheim and found a 76 station pumping it in Fullerton for the return trip .
Track activity sounds very tempting.

OBD sport tuning maid my benz hall ***...
So check it out. Sema is in Las Vegas and I've been emailing these guys at OBD tuning and hook up with them. When they get into town. So I go to pick them up from the hilton Las Vegas(two sharp lookin cats in black). We start talking, they turn out to be really nice guys...we go to the most knowledgeable mechanic in Las Vegas(Wolf) 30 minutes and BAM car is tuned to about "scare the hell out of me" mode. So we go to this little hot spot i know KONA GRILL have a few (great company, great drinks feelin fine.)..But thats not it so....we go back to the Hilton and ther is the owner of nuespeed so I give him the key and let HIM take it for a ride....comes back and give me a huge thumbs up...these guys at OBD tuning know there ****...they like it fast and hard........no doubt.....

I would guess stock it should run about 11.5 or 11.4 with real tires on it.
Stock it dynoed at 542 RWHP:
http://www.rogerver.com/album/S65/slides/Roger's%20%20S65%20Dyno%20Graph.html
After the renntech mods it made 610 RWHP
http://www.rogerver.com/album/S65/sl...ch%20mods.html
My old 2003 S600 with the renntech mods ran a best time of 11.5 making 525 RWHP.

Power wise these engines are obviously UNDER rated.
Treynors 03 S600 dyno'd 480rwhp stock (91 octane?) rated 492bhp.
Roger seeing 542rwhp on his S65 (91 octane?) rated 616bhp.
Using a 20% drivetrain loss gives:
S600 = 600hp
S65 = 678hp
Let's cross reference these power numbers above against a simple HP calculator found here: http://www.dsm.org/tools/calchp.htm
Using Ben's S600, estimated race weight of 4900lbs, stock baseline dynojet of 480, stock baseline 1/4 mile of 12.4 @ 114 = 567hp (convincing eh?)
Renntech chip making 525rwhp, best 1/4 11.5 @ 121mph = 677hp (nailed it!)
So, it is VERY fair to say that a stock S600 is a 600hp car and a stock S65 is a 675hp car.
One more piece of evidence. The S65 is rated 124hp more than a S600 and yet the dyno numbers are only 60hp different. 60rwhp at 20% loss = 75hp... exactly the difference I quote above.
Unless MB is rating these engines with 87 octane fuel...
Tranny wise: What do the Maybach's use? Same tranny right? Heavier car with more power (vs S600). Is the AMG tranny the same or upgraded?

that's unbelievable! I'm looking to upgrade my 02 S55 to an 06 S65. how much more hp and torque did you pick up with the renntech flash? and just to confirm, all you have is the flash and airbox?
whoover, it sounds like you have a S65 as well.
I have to say the Renntech mods are worth every penny.
Also if you have a local gas station that sells 100 octane, put a tank of that in and drive it around. It makes a HUGE difference as well.
The computer compensates right away.
Also, to be fair to MB, in my 03 S600 that ran a best of 11.5, (with the renntech chip) when the transmission had a very very slight error code that they could not diagnose, they put in a %100 brand new transmission in the car at around 28K miles. No questions asked, and didn't charge me one cent for it.
I'm a happy MB customer and I think I will be for years to come.
Here is the time slip from the pass:
http://www.rogerver.com/album/Califo...k%20times.html
If I had gotten a better launch, I think an 11.1 or 11.0 would have easily been possible.

All I have is the Renntech Airbox, Chip, and Drag Radials.
11.0 @ 128MPH is my current best.
