S55 AMG DVD System
Just curuious
As you know there is a DVD player in dash in this model. (2004-06 S55)
When you insert a DVD movie, you can hear it but it says that the picture is blocked to avoid driver distraction.
QUESTION:
Does anyone here know if that can be altered to show picture as well?

It can not be. The only way would be to replace the COMAND with a European version. It's only real value is as an Ipod replacement. You can burn a zillion MP3s to a DVD and the COMAND will play them.

Euro COMANDs allow DVD display in the front only when the car is stationary. Semi-secret configuration options can override this, although driver distraction is certainly an issue. But stupidly, the American DVD COMAND will not display video even if the car is parked. And there is no way to reconfigure these Siemens heads to allow standstill display. Steve Krabbenborg (MBenzNL.com) confirms he tried and failed.

Thats too bad..what a waste. Maybe the Germans just do not trust us to pay attention to the road, even when we are parked..ha ha ha
If you changed to Euro, it is costly? No warranty here?
bad idea?

A Euro COMAND from Steve at MBenzNL is about $2K, I think. He's coming to the States this month so you can find one of his posts and PM him about details. I think he gives you a 12-month warranty. If things ever go real bad, you can always swap your old one back in. You can find them cheaper on eBay, but I understand most of them are stolen; obviously, warranty is unlikely.
Besides the cost, the major incompatibility for the US is no Sirius. The SAT button is replaced with a TV button on the Euro COMAND. That switches on an optional TV tuner in the trunk. Steve also installs those. If you don't have Sirius, this isn't a problem. If you do, it is.
RDS is another plus for the Euro COMAND.
