There's been a lot of talk about expectations that AMG will turbocharge the 6.3 engine (e.g. to make the S63 torque-competitive with the S55). If they do that, how do they market a 6.3 TT V-8 vs. a 6.0 TT V-12? They could get up to 1000 ft-lbs from the 65 engine if they wanted (and had a transmission to take it), so what would the point be?
Would they replace the 65 engine? I hope not. Trading the turbine-like power delivery for higher RPMs would be a step backwards IMO for a large car. Marketing an E63TT vs. an S65 would be tricky, even if they wanted to sell a 600 HP E-class. How about a 600 HP C63? This would only make sense if they upped the S65 to 700+ HP. And again, why a 600 HP S63 at that point? AMG may have engineered themselves into a corner.

I think AMG can (re)engineer themselves any corner they like, IMO. I have the feeling that once the 6.3TT shows up, the upper AMG models (S, CL, SL) will feature it, while the lower range will retain the normally aspirated one.
Also, AMG must have something in store for their V12 range. Although the upcoming 6.3 V8TT will meet or may even exceed the specs of the current 6.0 V12TT, a downgrade to a V8 is definitively that: a step back.

The 6.3 NA engine will remain as AMG decided to scrap the twin turbo project on the 6.3 engine because it was getting too costly. However, AMG will probably decide to have a twin turbo setup on the 550 instead.
