iPod Docking

To the guys with ipods in their cars:

What do you use to "dock" your ipod in your car. I bought one made by Belkin yesterday which plugs into the cigarrete lighter, but its too "flimsy"; it won't secure tight enough to stay in place.

BTW i'm using the regular auxillary input to listen to the ipod. Sounds pretty good.

My ipod stays in the glovebox since that is where the connector is.

I don't have the Ipod integration kit(I can't change songs with the steering wheel or thru COMAND). I have an auxillary cable running from the ipod to the auxillary jack in the glove box. I have to change songs on the actual ipod itself(I know it sucks).

I was wondering if someone used some sort of aftermarket or dealer in-car dock to mount the ipod.

I do the same thing Steve. It really isn't that bad, but if there is a cheap system to hook it up, I wouldn't mind doing it.

Changing the songs on the command is not very intuitive, in fact, if it didn't lock the ipod out I would be holding it in my hand. Its best to leave the ipod changing to the passenger, but cant be done with the ipod kits.

In my last car, I bought the Ipod docking stations from best buy and Radio shack. It plugged directly into the lighter socket and I was able to position it so that I can see it while driving. It wasnt that easy to operate and mostly I would take it out and hold it in my hand to change the channels.
