S63 performance package for $7,000??

At the end of the day, this shouldn't matter to much on a $130,000 car, but i do note that MBUSA is charging $7,000 for the performance package that consists of speed de-limiting (i assume costless to them) plus two features (new 20" forged wheels and black lacquer interior) that go for about $4,000 in europe when ordered a la carte (in a market where everything costs more than in the US due to various tax regimes)

I guess they scalp where they can!

Understand 030 wheels are some ?25lb lighter than non-030 wheels...so poss ceramic brake-like wt savings/handling improvements....

Does 030 also incl bespoke-spec high-perf tires (perhaps stickier/better handling/braking tires over non-030 tires...though perhaps weaker in wet)?

Would always prefer factory-installed, spec'd wheels/tires over local MB dealer/tire shop installation work....and prefer full cost of any car to be $0 down-leased via MB Credit, w/lease gap ins cvg.....

030 pricing is prob fair for a fundamentally discretionary car and even more discretionary option....no one "needs" an S63 anyway....a $100K S550 prob provides safe, comfortable, decently fast transport at an even lower cost.....

From the invoice, it looks like the alcantara headliner is part of the 030 package. That would make the $7,000 not too exorbitant. What I find offensive is not the price but the fact that the performance package is mostly a styling package. Leaving out the LSD and/or some kind of suspension recalibration wouldn't have gotten my vote. Apparently "Performance Package" is now code for "sporty" and "Black Series" is the new code for "performance." Don't you love product marketing?

Listing on the invoice is kind of weird .... alcantra headliner shows up in a weird place, as does the black lacquer. Headliner is standard feature, not included in the $7k. The 030 package consists of (a) forged wheels (very cool, i will grant you and not avail outside of the package in the us), about 1700 EUR a la carte in europe (as a factory installed replacement); (b) black lacquer (450 EUR option); (c) speed de-limiting

If you think the performance package is a rip-off, get a load of the even senseless pricing for the designo packages. Especially on the higher end V12 models, which already have comparable quality materials as standard
