Please help! This newb's head hurts!!!

OK, much to my bride's chagrin I've spent about the entire day searching the site in reference to warranty coverage. I have concerns specifically about the factory coverage and aftermarket warranty coverage. Details...

'04 S55, current mileage 34XXX. 2nd owner, bought at Car Max with their "standard" used car warranty. Here's where the questions and my confusion start.

What's the standard, factory warranty on it, and as the second owner am I eligible to exercise that coverage? I've noticed a couple of electrical gremlins (passenger side headrest won't adjust, doors won't unlock unless the keyfob is activated [the proximity thing isn't working], the trunk opens but won't retract unless I do it manually, and I'm sure there's a few other things I haven't picked up on!), and I'm curious if I can have those issues addressed/repaired under the factory warranty.

My search revealed a lot of great information/links regarding aftermarket warranties and I have quote requests out to Auto Warranty Broker, Chrysler Service Contracts and Auto Service Warranty, my main concern is knowing exactly what I have from the factory right now, which will effect what coverage, term and mileage I use for the aftermarket warranty decision.

Much, MUCH thanks in advance!

To my knowledge, the factory warranty covers EVERYTHING except for maintenance(oil, service a, b, c etc.). And yes you are able to excersise the coverage. If I were you I would call the "standard" warranty company and have them refund your money(if you purchased it thru carmax). Its pretty much worthless(my experience with the "standard" extended warranty companies would prompt me to say this)

The issues you are having should be covered under warranty. Take it in and they'll take care of it. However the trunk ONLY closes manually. At least mine does. Either by the switch on the inside on the trunk or the one in the driver's side door. Or do you mean you have to physically push it down closed?

Thanks very much for your response, any information is very much appreciated. I guess I was confused about the trunk and thought it retracted when you pushed the button again...but now that I'm thinking about it I can see why it wouldn't!

The Car Max warranty came with the car (no charge), and they were more than happy to try to sell me their own extended warranty, but after doing some research here and reading how theirs worked, I passed...

I'm still trying to figure out what my standard warranty coverage is... Is there anyway I can determine the in-service date by VIN without going to the dealer?

BTW, I'm digging the mods in your sig

Thanks!

I'll answer at least one of my own questions, least I can do for anyone else that might be interested...

Edmunds says the standard factory warranty is 4 years/50,000 miles.

Lots of other decent info on that site (LINK).

I think your best option to find out the in-service date on your car WOULD be to go to the dealer.

If you tell them to perform a VMI(i think thats what its called) you'll get everything you need to know about the vehicle.

About the mods in my sig....I'm diggin' 'em too

Right on, will do. I'll do a schedule B service while I'm at it and start off with a clean slate...it's a new car to me!
