Greetings to All,
I am thinking about swapping out my E55 for an S65 as I want a slightly bigger sedan.
I am curious if the extra power of the S65 if adequate to compensate for the extra weight, such that the S65 feels noticably quicker. I am particularly interested in noticably stronger acceleration from the 40-100 mph range, as opposed to the traditional 0-60.
Any input from those who have experienced both???
Thanks in advance!
Rob

I am an owner of a '06 S 65 AMG and I have driven my share of 55's (500 Bhp version), and I would like to mention that even though the 0-60 times are quite close, the amount of torque the V12 Biturbo puts out is enough to send the earth rotating around it's axes the other way than your wheels are going, or at least it feels that way.
On a more serious note though, I'd choose the 65 over the 55 in a heartbeat, the power delivery is just SO much smoother, and that torque will have you flying by everything on your path, be it a 40 miles an hour or at 140 mph!
The other convenience is that the S 65 has an extended wheelbase from the factory (at least mine has), and the comfort in the back is just amazing.
I wouldn't even swap it for a Maybach... (ok maybe i would but you get the point!)
Good luck on deciding, In my opinion i would DEFINATLY get it!

Max HP doesn't come close to telling the story. At 2,000 RPM the E55 develops around 190 HP while the S65 produces 260. At 3,000 the E55 is up to about 300 and the S65 is producing 430.Originally Posted by wolfturbo

Part-throttle response at cruising speeds is a totally different experience in the 65. Not only is passing at 80 a joy, you normally do it by feathering the throttle. Mashing it is reserved for making a statement.
