insurance rates for s55?

I was just curious as to what everyone is paying for insurance and what I should expect to pay if you don't mind me asking. I am 25, clean driving record, Los Angeles. I'm specifically looking at the 03-04 s55s. Thanks for all your help guys and gals.

Call your insurance company and they'll quote you, or go on-line and do the same thing, esurance, etc., they'll be more than happy to tell you. Shop around, keep your deductibles as high as they'll let you you (and you can afford) for physical damage coverages (collision/comprehensive) and you'll save some $...

'04 S600 (same car, different engine, basically same HP), I just paid $990 through Erie Insurance. I have 4 vehicles through them (3 drivers, including an 18 yo son) .... no driving infractions or claims for any drivers over the past 5 years.

Allstate

There going to hit you for being under 25 but Allstate has the best overall rate structure. The Agent you choose has a lot to do with the rate also... Trust me. I have been all over the country and the good agent keep your rates lower.

First things first...What do you drive now and what do you pay?
Second... Guy who paid $900 on his is probably also over 40 with a clean driving record similar to me. Old farts like us can pay about 25% of what a 25 year old (in CA) might pay.. Your's would probably run you around $2,500

2002 S55 NA V8 1M max, etc...$100 deductible, 7k/yr, $1250/yr.

obviously, w/ 03-04+ it'll be much more for bigger engine and higher collision cost/risk.

Pretty close? His was for a YEAR, your quote looks like it's for 6 months? $2,600/year for insurance is ....not realistic. Do you have aton of tickets or something? Heck, I was quoted $665/year for a 2003 S55 but then again I am an old fart with a perfect driving and credit record as well as every concievable discount including my wifes hybrid on there...

California is pretty expensive if you're in major cities, and it doesn't help to own MBs as they are very expensive to repairs in the event of collision. i think when we had Lexus before, we were able to get it down to about $800-1k/yr/car. note: this is very good considering that 1982 at age 17, i had 3 points on my driving record w/ my new Toyota Supra...my insurance was $5000 that year(probably $15k in today's dollars).

btw, rates also vary based on coverage. my friend told me he was only paying $600/yr for this 2003 BMW 745Li. i was impressed so i called his agent to get a quote. turns out he was only getting minimum coverage of $50k/100k and i think $50k on collision. that's a HUGE difference from $500k/$1M policy...so be sure to read the fine print.

Yep, I quailify for the "old farts" discount. No Points/Infractions, a few cars in the garage, live in the country (this actually costs me more, go figure!).

My kicker for higher premiums is that I have an 18 yo son on my policy (he drives the IS300). He also has a crotch rocket that's in his name and his own policy, but also through Erie. I'm sure those 2 factors don't help my rates....

Agent told me that because of the larger motor, body style, V12, year, etc. were the cause of my rate increase from my last car (LS430). All in all, I'm happy with the rate I'm paying....

Correct - But isn't the POINT of insurance that your betting that you WILL wreck the car and they (the insurance companies) are betting that you won't wreck it? Since that is TRULY the case, the objective of the "game" is to pay them as little money as possible.

I carry a million dollar umbrella (like most of us I would expect) but I also don't pay the higher rates associated with the low deductibles but rather have a $1K deductible. Over the 30+ years I've been driving this has saved me something like $15K so in that mindset I could technically afford to wreck a car 15 times before I would have any true "out of pocket" expenses. Why play with your own money when you can play with the banks money? Small items like Windshield replacements are (of course) covered with no deductible so why have a $100 deductible instead of a $1K deductible if it saves you literally $100's every six months?

Just updated my cost for the 2004 S55 I am investigating. Total yearly cost is $654.20 100/300K limits, 500/1000 deductibles. 44 years old. No accidents, no tickets, Work from home 85% of the time with little-to-no business travel (other than to airport). Live in North Carolina. Auto Policy only with only clean record wife as second driver. No kids of driving age in the household.
