07 s550 or 06 s55?
Hi All,
Just joined the forum.
I have long been a fan of the S55 model and have thought long and hard about getting one. I recently sold my S430 because it was spending more time at the mechanics garage instead of my own. Based on my past experience I am leery about getting one due to reliability and maintenance concerns.
I've read a few reviews on the S550 and they all say that MB has gone back to its roots and improved the quality over the last model. So, I torn between which direction to go.
I realize this is an S55/65 forum and opinions may be biased but would love to hear your thoughts anyway.
thanks,
Ather

IMO, btwn choices provided, no-brainer to get a new, $0-down leased '08 S550 w/ABC.....(have owned/driven numerous new S/CL 550/600/55/63/65 from both generations)
Last-gen S/CL were a sad era for MB w/dubious quality/reliability, even when new.....and which tend to age poorly....
And the tech-platform for last-gen is nearly 10yrs old....and is glaringly ancient once one drives any new-gen....
Last-gen AMG S/CL were unfortunately powerful motors w/o matching steering precision/chassis balance.....MB now has a clearly greater emphasis upon chassis precision/stability matching the motors' hp/tq.....as best seen in current-gen S/CLs.....
Run the nos., but suspect leasing an '08 S550 will be cheapest/best value....car is being disctd heavily in slow economy; lease terms may be made more attractive by MBCredit to move units; have full protection of lemon laws and factory warranty; relationship w/a good dealer if any svc issues arise; lease-gap insurance cvg, so one's exposure is limited in any total loss.....and the tech/aesthetics of a pristine, new, latest-tech car based upon one's specs/choices.....
No one "needs" an S-Class anyway, so why waste money on any used/decayed/elderly car, no matter the brand/model.....

New S550 all the way, especially since you already had a W220 S430. Now the old S65 would be more tempting but even to a speed nut like me the W221 makes more sense. It will also look more impressive, which is part of the appeal of owning a car like the S-Class for many people.

It all depends on what you are looking for. Power with the 55 and new looks and tech with the 550. Don't get me wrong the 550 has power also with 380hp but the 55 is on a hold different level. With mods the 55 is a power house. Body styling is still good also. With the 550 its going to be more advance with its tech bottom line. The 220 platform navi sucks ***. But like the forum members said if you can swing a 65 be it the w220 or w221 go for it.
