"But then again, Mercedes also says the S63 AMG accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

Another fib.

At our test track, this big, black behemoth sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds."

how can Benz lie about something like, iv always took pride in the fact that Benz Sandbags their numbers. I rmeber seeing 55's in Road and Track running 4.2 insted of 4.5's and 65's running 4.0's

5.2 seconds is like E46 M3 fast, but why would Benz and how could they quote lower?

They likely take an average, in my 63 there can be a huge disparity in the cars performance obviously there are numerous factors that could speed up or slow down the car.

we have guys hitting 3.9-4.9 in the CLS I could imagine the S63 4.4-5.4.

Who knows it sure is a great looking benz, I do not think S class owners really care too much bout 0-60,

Oh the hype....please read other tests besides Edmunds. Edmunds numbers are usually the slowest of the bunch. Others have gotten the correct figures from the S63 AMG. From Car and Driver:

The S63 AMG runs 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and rips through the quarter-mile in 13.0 seconds at 110 mph, all for the comparatively low base price of $130,775. (Yes, and we do mean comparatively.)

Why does everyone take one review and treat it like the only one? Clearly something was amiss with the S63 Edmunds tested or they simply couldn't get it done that day.

Motor Trend also got it to 60 mph in 4.5 secs:
