2001 S55 AMG Questions

Greetings,

I am new to the forum, I considering purchasing a 2001 S55. I have a few questions regarding in potential problems. This car has about 48K miles on her and is very clean.

I happen to live here in Ohio, how well does this car handle in the snow for those who live in either the northeast or mid-west.

Overall what are your thoughts, thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome!

My first question would be: What's your budget?
You might consider a 2003 S55 - that would come with the 493HP-engine.

I already found a clean one for for $28K. But I assume you know that already...

03 S55 for $28k?
that sounds too cheap for SF bay area.
in fact, i've even seen the N/A 01/02 S55's that are asking $35k.
probably the best price i've seen for 03+ has been in the mid-$30k's.

Here's an example:

2003 S55, $27,900

When shopping around, you can even get an 05 in the mid-30s.
This one is fully loaded (is even equipped with power rear-setas), only 49K miles, offered at $37,895:

2005 S55

I don't know why anybody is bound to the SF Bay area (or Cal in general) when shopping for a car?! The main purpose of buying pre-owned is to save money, so why should I buy where the average price for what I'm looking for is the highest in the nation? Doesn't make much sense, does it?

I wouldn't mind spending 2 days travelling across the country if somebody offers exactly what I'm looking for at the right price. It's not even necessary to drive that car home by yourself.
