Go to the w220 section. There's a sticky at the top as well as a video near the end of the thread.

anyone know the procedure on removing the passenger side mirror housing on a 2004 s class...i watched the video and my car doesn't have the clip on the bottom. if i push the mirror forward (towards the front of the car) part of it will come off towards the bottom but i can't figure out how to get the top to separate. my led turn signal isn't working and i need to replace.

thanks for any help in advance. john

John, I think they're all the same. You don't need to push the mirror frame forward.

Use the mirror control and move the mirror all the way in (you'll see nothing but the side of the car), and then all the way up (you'll see nothing but sky).

Now with a flashlight, look in under the mirror between the bottom of the mirror and the frame inside the dark chasm that is the mirror "bucket".

Back in the corner at the side where the mirror attaches to the car and back on the back "wall", you should see a U-shaped clip. It's cadmium colored (that gold-ish tint you see on lots of bolts under the hood), about 1/2" wide and about 3/4-1" long. It lays flat against the bottom. Think of it as a ribbon - projects out from the body of the car, flips downward and backwards towards the car. Where the end of the ribbon is - that's where the latching occurs.

Get a long thin screwdriver, or possibly even a kitchen table knife. You might want to put some painter's tape across the front edge of the mirror frame to guard against scratching - don't use masking tape - it leaves residue - the blue tape is just fine.

Put the tool in under the clip and push the tool to the back, then rotate slightly. You're trying to lift the bottom of the clip up to disengage the edge of the clip from the outer shell of the mirror.

It helps to have someone to help you coax the cover off by wiggling and gently pulling while you're doing the screwdriver dance.

It's not hard, but it's not easy, either. I just had my driver's side off last Friday to replace the gasket, and it took a bit of doing.

I see you're in Houston too - if you can't figure this out, PM me. I work downtown-ish (Allen Pkwy/Waugh), live southwest (59 & Toll road) and am regularly out northwest (Belt/290/249). Maybe we can meet and I can help.
