California Version Cars (494) - Does anyone know what this really means?

I bought my car from California. I know that some other manufacturers are forced to run lower power or other more restrictive things in CA vs. rest of the states.

Does anyone know if there is/was such a thing for the 65s?

I have the following "option" code on my car: 494 - California version
version for USA/California/Canada (с 01.01.1996)

Thanks.

I do not believe there is any difference between California cars and others. California is just one of several states that now have more restrictive emmissions regulations. The old days of "49 state" cars disappeared several years ago.

The problem we do have in California is with crappy gas. 91 octane is as high as we get, and even that can be suspect. Some fuels are better 91 octane (Chevron) than others.

494 is a code to designate US hardware.

is it safe to assume that there are no differences between regular cars and california cars? or is the "california" car a thing of the past?
