06' S65 exhaust question

Does anyone know why there is a restriction in the right exhaust pipe about 3/4ths of the way down the car towards the mufflers? Did the MB engineers decide that the car needed some increased backpressure to spool the turbos or something? Would removing it help/hurt power? And same question about mufflers... does removing them help or hurt power? I have heard conflicting advice about backpressure in exhaust systems on Turbo cars. Some guys say less helps the turbos spool quicker. Some say the opposite. Any thoughts?

I think that the AMG exhaust on the s65 is pretty close to ideal. I have heard of a guy that went to a great deal of expense and effort to make a custom exhaust for a 65 series only to produce 0hp 0tq gains. What a bummer. I would put my money towards an ecu tune. That makes real hp and tq. It was worth .7/8mph in the 1/4 mile in my s600. S65 exhaust looks good stock too...why mess with a good thing?

I wanted it a bit louder, so I just cut the mufflers off. Makes a great sound, but isn't overly loud at all for a DD.

Sam, you taking your car to Epping this year? If you do, let me know when and I'll meet you up there, I'm in Portsmouth.

Any idea if cutting the mufflers out f's up the backpressure for turbos at all? Z

Epping is a maybe. I can't decide if I want to take the S65 or the 996TT, or have a buddy drive one and drag them both at the same time.

Back pressure seems to be unchanged. I had the car on the dyno AFTER I made the exhaust mod, and it performed outstanding (522HP & 608TQ), and was still building more power as it hit the rev limiter.

You need to get on Yuppeiracing.net man! You're local!!
