Most of the common ones are taken... that seems to be the biggest issue these days. Finding one that a) makes sense and b) isn't taken already.
I don't know about other states, but I know in Texas there is actually a website where you can input your proposed vanity plate and see if it is already taken in the DMV database.

V12-Biturbo
De-badged mine & DMV Plate reads V12 TURB w/spacing... Some kid pulled up on me @ Stoplight the other day asks in a sarcastic voice "Is that the AMG model?" trust me he thought I was poser about to say "SL65" I retorted "No, just a little SL500"
As light changed I TQ braked an 8' cloudy broadie then let off brakes & laid dwn couple Armenian eyebrows thru the entire intersection, as I looked back he was still sitting @ greenlight keep'em guessin'

If you debadge it I think you could get away with the 'S65 V12' plate.
Personally, I think vanity plates are a bit naff. An uncle in the UK (where license plate guidelines are much stricter on the format) had 'SL55 TOY' and 'JP55 TOY' on his R230s.

Dear Lord...maybe he should just stick with S65V12TT
I'm gonna get two plates and weld them together so there's no confusion. My next plate will be:
PRSCHE 911 KLR
Then there will be an * stating that PRSCHE is a car and not the last or first name of any cop that I wish to harm.

I think debadging it and putting something like SRPRSE or SPRISE would be kinda cool especially if it was debadged and/or had a tune. Idea being you are saying "Surprise!" when you lay the hammer down.
