That's why I bought a 6 year old S55 last year and am eyeballing a 2005-6 S65 in about 2 years

unfortunatey its true. look around for some of the deals you can get on s65s now. These vehicle were around 200k new. I think its because of when the warranty runs out people are worried about the cost of maintaning the beast

2004 S55 ///AMG, 2007 E350
Most luxury cars lose about 50% value after the first 3 years, the AMG cars seem to depreciate more. Factors contributing to this steep depreciation are high maintenance and repair costs, AMG models are not stand-alone cars but a high-powered variation of standard models (exception being SLS), etc.
To reduce this heavy depreciation, AMG might offer a longer (maybe 6 years, 75K miles) warranty and tack on other benefits such as included maintenance, to distinguish AMG models from standard cars.

Mercedes S55 AMG
Most people who get these new lease them. This means that when the lease is over, they are now in the market as used cars, and their value starts to go down steadily, this is in conjunction with all of the other reasons mentioned as well. (Maintenance, etc)
