TPMS Question

I took my car to Discount Tire to get a quote on tires, plus my TMPS gives me a 'not operational' message. I just bought the car and it did this all along. The tech at Discount could not get any readings from the monitors and says it would be very unusual for all 4 sensors to be bad. I plan to replace them anyway, but has anyone had a similar experience? I understand that the batteries last only 4-5 years. Thanks for any input.

You're correct about the 5 year battery life...I have the same issue from my 2005 car...However, i have been reading the Benz documentation and it continually refers to SERVICE items on the TPMS sensors that must be replaced each time a tire is dismounted and mounted. I have bseen these on EBAY a few times and it appears to be more than just a battery...The benz documentation refers to this as re-programming but doesnt really go into WHY it has to be done....possible to ensure the correct TPMS refers to the correct tire location RR, LR, etc.
I do know that it cost $50 per wheel at the dealer for new batteries and only assume that this covers the "re-programming" as well.
I'm sticking with the manual tire guage for now but sure would like to get mine working.
Does anyone know what TPMS frequency that the 2005 cars use? I think it changed in 2007 to 433.xx
Thanks,

Mike

FYI my 4 sensore all went bad within a week of each other....I would say that this is normal for batteries...they all do exactly the same job for the exact amount of time...
