S55k servicing - is it based on miles or time aswell?

As the title suggests really, i dont really use my 2004 S55k, i think my mileage is about 6,000 miles per year.

The car was last serviced just over a year ago, and its still showing nearly 5,000 miles till next service on the onboard service indicator. So i wont do that till about next year, which will mean 2 years between the services.

Is 2 years too much, or is that about right with the amount of mileage im likely to do?

Unlike some cars that need servicing every 12,000 miles or 12 months, which ever comes first, im not sure if this is still applicable to the S55.

Shall i get an annual service done or wait till the service indicator tells me to have it serviced?

Thanks.

My car averages 3K per year..I change the oil every 6-8 months regardless of mileage and use Mobil 1. In my opinion, if you regularly start the car and drive it a couple of miles per week, you should be fine with the normal intervals for everything except the main fluids. Check the color of the ABC, Engine oil, Brake fluid, and PS fluid regularly and change it whenever the color starts to go dark. I bought a trickle charger and move my car a foot or two forward and backwar every week or so to keep the tires from getting flat spots. I also park mine on carpetting under each wheel to prevent tire dry rot.
Driving them is probably better for them overall, but i dont want the weather and miles on mine.

Thank you very much for that Mr Benzes, very much appreciated.

In the past iv usually done an engine "oil and filter" change every 6,000 miles or 6 months, which ever came first, but that was on a car in which i was doing about 20,000 miles per year. With this one i dont tend to use it much and dont want to be just throwing money at it if it doesnt need it.

Although i think by your suggestion im going to change atleast the engine oil and filter every so often on this, i think a 6-8 month schedule sounds about right.

Id say that Mobil 1 does not break down, like conventional oils do, and that the 6-months is probably on the conservative side, but for the $50 bucks it costs for an oil change is peace of mind for me....I also have a 1971 280SE 3.5 and follow the same procedure...at the last change i had put 175 miles on it...over an 8 month period...I was having the car painted.

It definitely gets Mobil 1 0w40 in my car, iv even got 5 litres of it to use as a top up as it requires about 1 litre every 1,000 miles.

Funnily enough, as i stated in the other thread about oil consumption, every time i top up the oil with 1 litre it seems to add a few hundred miles till the next service. Just before the last top up the service indicator showed about 4,700 miles to next service, after top up that figure jumped to about 5,200 miles till next service!!!!

I think im going to have it serviced as and when the service indicator tells me to at my local indie to have the book stamped, and do an oil and filter change somewhere in between by myself at home. Best of both worlds i think.

My last oil change was 4k miles 1 year ago. Just have the service D light came on last Friday. I think the computer or car will ask you to change not only by the mileage also by time. You should change your oil no matter what once a year even don't drive much. I own my E55 06 for 3 years did 12000 miles with 3 oil changes.

+1 on all the suggestions here. When you walk through your service manual, you'll see that some things are mileage, others are time. My cars are all light use as well. And even on 5k oil changes, that comes out to about once per year -- or less. On my M3, I went a full year and some change -- like 15 months -- before I put 6k on it. The Service Engine light came on. These are probably the same.
