A few S55 questions (2003 or 2004 MY):

- What is the fuel tank capacity for US models?

- Are Rear Side-Window Roller Blinds not an option for any S?

- While listed for all other S models, the Build Your Own section on MBUSA does not show Active Ventilated Seats/Rear as an option for the S55. Is this true or just an accidental ommission?

- While listed for all other S models, the Build Your Own section on MBUSA does not show Power Rear Seats as an option for the S55. Is this true or just an accidental ommission?

Don't know off hand what the fuel capacity is, I checked the brochure from the dealer but it wasn't listed.

All of those options are available on U.S. models of the S55, I have both the Active Ventilated Rear Seats and the Power Rear Seats. Can't remember if I ordered the rear roller blinds, had them on my M5 but rarely used them, so I don't think I ordered them this time. Too bad they aren't powered like the one for the rear window, too much trouble to manually open and close them!

I have a deposit down on an E55 for delivery when my current lease runs out in January of 2004. My wife and I have been thinking about going with the S55 instead due to the greather amount of room in the rear seat. We have one child right now and will probably have another within the next year or 2. What I don't want is a situation where whenever we go somewhere with the kids, it's always in her car because we fell too cramped in mine.

So, I've been trying to compare feature availability between the 2 and I noticed the above oddities from the MBUSA site. Additionally, one of my biggest interests is in whether DVD nav will be made available on 2004 S-Class vehicles like it has been reported to be. If so, that will probably be the last holdout for me to get the S55 rather than the E55.

The fuel capacity for the S55 is 23.2 U.S. gal with a 2.9 U.S. gal reserve according to the owners manual. The same as the S430, S500 and S600

 

2004 S will definately have DVD Nav system. Also, upgraded BOSE stereo w/ two more seakers in back deck, tire pressure monitoring now standard, keyless go now integrated into smartkey (don't need card anymore)......and can now order SIRIUS satelitte radio.....one new exterior color Granite Grey

Option code 402 and 223 on 2004 gets you the rear seats you want in the S55.

 

There are a few specifics about this DVD Nav system which I'm trying to find the answer to. First, will the DVD Nav system in the 04 S be the same as what we have seen in the 03 Replacement Es (talking specifically about US models here)? If not, will the new system support the 3-D Bird's Eye View that didn't make it into the 03 E DVD Nav system? Also,the extra speakers are reportedly for 5.1 DD decoding so, while it appears that the Euro 04 S Nav will support DVD playback, will US versions have this included or ommitted like it was on the 03 E DVD Navs? Lastly, will the 04 S DVD Nav have an audio Aux in jack?

The 04 MY brochures due out in the next couple of weeks may answer some of the above but probably not all.
