S55 does 178 without chip?

S55 does 178 without chip?
I have heard the S55 will do 178 mph without the governor chip? Is this true and does anybody see the need to do this, are you really going to go above 155 in this kinda car? Also are the 430's, 500's and 600's limited at 130 or is that what they top out at? What would be there top speed without the chip? Your replys are appreciated.

Well, the speed limiter is set at at 155 mph for the 430, 500, 55, and 600 for all the classes except for the new SL55. I am not sure what the top speed unrestricted would be but I would guess around the 170-180 mph area and no more. Remember, horsepower = top speed and torque = acceleration.

Are you sure the 430, 500 and 600 go 155 with the chip in? In all the magazines and people I have talked to they said those 3 models go 130 with the chip in?

dunno about the U.S. but i have driven an S320 CDI at over 140mph and my c230k at 150...
all merc in europe are limited to 155(250kmh) except the new sl55 which as a factory option can be set to 186...(300kmh) in the uk autocar magazine has tespeted the car to 208mph with all limiters off.
gotta get me one of those....
i have to say i would expect an s55 to rum well past 180 - heard a rumor that chipped s320cdi ( up to 250bhp) will pull 170-175
