I'm looking at buying an 02 S55 with about 55K. Can anyone give me an idea of some of the things I need to look out for. I know that the suspension can be a problem, but is it as much of a concern as I hear about with the CL'S and is anything else I should look for.....Any thoughts.....Thanks.

Make sure you have all of the plastic shields under the car and that all accesssories work as they should...TPMS, Keyless, seat fans, seat massage, seat heat, etc...they all add up in repair costs to fix them...and you wont find anything for these cars in the salvage yards. Make sure you dont have any check engine lights or codes in the computer that you will be surprised later by....they arent the end of the world, but the hidden costs can add up. Make sure it is a real AMG car too, sometimes people try to dress up "regular" mercedes with badges but you need the big brakes, correct engine, Dual 3" exhaust at each side, etc.
A 2002 car will have about 350HP so it should run like a beast.
The ABC fluid should be a clear greenish color, as should be the PS fluid.
Make sure the AC works well and dont fall for the "It just needs freon" story...plan on $2k if they say it "Just needs freon".
If it is a car from up north you might want to really check underneath for corrosion on the pipes and lines for hte suspension, etc...they carry upwards of 3000PSI and a corroded line will be the weakest link.
Enjoy the car, I have a friend in Houston that has a 2001 and loves it with over 150K on the car.
