S55 [W220] Parking Sensor Failure - Sender Unit or Just Sensor?
Hi everyone,
Here's a small challenge that has started today.
Started my S55 and left her to warm up as normal.
Foot on brake, into drive, front interior parking sensor lights [just the 2 red ones] lit up and the normal sensor warning buzzer sounded in the car.
Hmmm I thought, so back in to Park.... all lights off and no buzzer.
Back in to Drive, same fault as above.
Drove off, buzzer sound stopped, front red sensor indicator lights still on, then after a few hundred metres, red indicator lights go off and the 'P' Parking Sensor disable button on the dash lights up.
If I press the 'P' button to turn off it's single red LED then the buzzer sounds again and the two front red parking sensor lights come on again.
Also after the 'P' button turns itself on and the car's speed drops below 10mph the two red lights come on and the buzzer sounds again.
When I pull away the lights go off, buzzer stops and the 'P' override button LED on the dash lights up again.
My question is; have you had the same fault occur? and if so was it just a fauly bumper fitted sensor or a faulty Sensor Parking Control unit?
Any assistance greatly appreciated guys/gals.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
I love the internet... almost as much as my S55 ;-)
Cheers,
Mark

Parktronic sensor
Thanks for your answer. I will get one sensor and play the musical chair with it until I find the bad one. I hope that they are easy to reach and remove. They are probably black and we then need to get them painted.
Do you know if they are expensive?

Sesor cost
Hi, sorry no idea... I did spend over £6500k at the back end of last year on her... then 3 weeks ago some idiot on the motorway decided he'd swerve from the middle lane in to the outside lane and 'take me out' ... he blamed the car in front of him braking... but it was nothing to do with that.
Every panel on the n/s went, along with front and rear bumper, doors, wing mirror.... she has been written-off by the insurance company and was collected yeaterday on a low-loader... Sad day for my gal!!
Wishing you the best with your sensor challenge buddy... it is annoying when it beeps for no reason.
