7 speed in 04 S55?

Well...Get a gearbox from a Mercedes Vito Truck and mate it with the S55 and you'll have a 18 geared truck/saloon.
A couple questions though:
Why have Mercedes gone from 5 to 7 gears? Why not 6? Is MB trying to brake new grounds using 7 gears.
And thank goodness it isn't a manual box...We'll all be needing Heavy Good lisences to drive the things. :p
