3000 miles on S55

This car is so addictive. The way it handles, its unbelievable power and

speed----the comfort. Even the "oh ****! Look at that!" looks

knowledgeable people give.

It is wonderful driving around in town, but the attitude of the car is

not fully appreciated until it is on the open road.

For you guys who have an S 500, that fantastic silky smooth ride that is

so distinctive with the S 500 is not seen in the S55. The 55 suspension

has been tuned by AMG to be more abrupt and REACTIVE. The ABC suspension

setting is just as aggressive as it needs to be to interface with that

500 horse blown stroker motor. I mention this because my WIFE noticed

that the S55 just did not "have as smooth a ride as the S500". I do not

like the look she gets in her eyes as she says this.

The engine is great an any speed, but literally explodes with sound when

hammered in town. You have to hear what this is all about to understand,

but suffice it to say that if you get on this car in a building-concrete

atmosphere, if there are any cops within 6 square blocks, they are going

to know someone is doing something they want to be interested in. I have

had cops pull up beside me and give me the squenty-eye. I am a little

old baldheaded man and these cops are trying to compute that sound they

heard with this big black old man looking car and my innocent baldheaded

brainless smile. It just don't add up haha

Sounds Great I pick up mine tomorrow. What car did you drive prior to your S55? The only thing that I was worried about was road feel coming from driving 2 BMWs for the past 6 years. Much of what I have read from articles, message boards, and talking to people have said that MB does not give the same feel or handle the same as BMW. From your post as well as others on this board it would seem that is not true in the case of AMG or the S55. I would guess the toughest road ahead for me will be the first 1000 miles. Lots of luck with your car.

Thanks for the review, I know I congratulated you before, but it got deleted on the blackout.
