Amg Awd ???

heard a rumor today, the source of which is a friend of a friend who visited the AMG factory within the last month or so. he was apparently told by the folks at AMG that they were working on their own AWD system for AMG cars because they felt 4MATIC wasn't up to the task.

anybody know anything about this? anybody heard similar?

an AWD S55 would be a lovely new england beastie!

doody.

While I have no knowledge of this, I do know that if this rumor is true, then everybody better watch out, meaning the competition. The BIGGEST problem of all the new AMG models is traction, too much power is wasted, this new four wheel drive system could give better acceleration and enough grip to finally taken on a proper 911 Turbo, coupled with the recently available LSD, and coming in 2005/6 the new torque-resilient 7 speed tranny and AMG has a monster on their hands.

Well, I don't know about 'taking on' a 911 Turbo but obviously going to all-wheel would not be rocket science...........and speaking of Porsche, MB could trade just a little more technology to make it happen..........the MY01/02 E55 transmission was a varient of the Turbo's Tip transmission.

It was pretty well acknowleged that the 420-460 range (at the crank) from the turbo, was about all that should be matched w/that transmission......but technology has marched on.....Porsche has been wkg on a new (double clutch type) transmission.........rumors

(meanwhile, quite a few stick Turbo owners, have taken their cars easily up to 550-600 and beyond........pretty difficult to catch )

If AMG really did come out with their own 4 wheel drive system audi's will lose their signiture advantage quattro. (Not like it really mattered) anyways it'll be a huge bonus to the amg family....
