Saris bike rack on back of my 08 S63. Didn't want to do it, but...

it's the only way of getting my bike places. It's the same one I've used for 4 years on my 2001 BMW 740i that I sold 3 weeks ago. It just happened to fit my S63. The guy at the bike store said that a hitch would work best since I wouldn't have to have the rack touching the paint on my car, but I can't imagine how to put it on this car. I'm sure it would look like crap!

He said that very few S63 owners put a bike on the back of it or actually anywhere on it... The Saris Bones 2 rack's side attachments don't seat that well on the trunk area and slip down unless they are perfectly adjusted. The car really isn't made to transport bikes, I guess.

Thought you'd get a kick out of these pics. Do you guys transport your bikes on your AMG? Any pics?

The end result, getting my bike to within 18.5 miles of the Capitol so we could do our 37 mi roundtrip ride today.

That's wild to see! Were you a bit apprehensive about putting "stuff" that big on your beautiful car?

I was worried about the metal pieces with rubbery stuff on the Saris bike rack messing up the finish due it it fitting so tightly on the rear deck lid, but in the end, it's just a car and I do have to transport my bike on it.

Yes, I was freaking out...and since they didn't fit properly on my wife's E500, mine was the only other choice. I ran to the craft store and picked up several pieces of thick and soft felt to put under the feet of the rails o help protect the paint. What was really terrible was that after driving an hour to get to the lake, a freak storm blew in so we couldn't even use them!

Those look very funny on both s classes. I have been toying with the idea of hooking up a trailer to my s65, borrowing my buddies 911turbo, trailering the 911 turbo to the dragstrip behind the s65, and then unhitching the trailer and drag racing the Benz, leaving my buddies 911 on the trailer. I already get looks racing the Benz, but that would be epic. I guess s500's can trailer 4500 lbs in Europe, and the s65 has bigger brakes, a Trans and an oil cooler, and beefier driveline components so if you could find a hitch with 840ft/lbs of torque it would trailer like there was nothing behind it!

Heck, just drag it with the 911 on the trailer attached!
Here's a link to a 2003 article where a South African S600 owner broke the record for fastest towing of a standard trailer pulled by a standard production car (previous record held by a Dodge Viper). 223km/hr...that's like 140mph if I'm doing my math properly...Can you imagine asking the tire people for Z rated tires for your trailer?
