I am new to this site and have a few questions hoping someone can help me!
I have a 2003 S55 and my mechanic (previously with MB locally) has said I need a new transmission. Is this common, uncommon or what getting figures of over 5k to fix. Definitely notice issues myself with shifting but surprised it happened this early. I do not beat this car at all.
Also was wondering who would be best to contact regarding some after market changes to the car i.e. paint, new wheels, possible trim kits. The car is silver and I have seen some of the posts with the Tektite Grey someone posted and that looks awesome. What kind of numbers am I looking at to get the paint done right and how difficult is it to change?
Thanks for the help

as far for the tranny go and get second opinion ''They '' always trying to fu you
It all depends how the transmission service been handeled through the years and if the car was really beat on. You could loose your transmission within the first 10k if you beat the **** out of it.
I really never beat on this at all. Took it to MB for all service up to 3 years ago after I got bent over just one to many times. The local repair guy worked at the Benz dealership and has treated me fairly just surprised he is recommending AAMCO for a rebuilt transmission because they offer a 1 year warranty. Wasn’t sure if I should get a 2nd opinion. Still interested in hearing if others have recommendations for a total body paint job looking to spice the car up[a bit like it’s a new car and saw some pictures of the Tectrite grey color which would work well with the interior.

Has your mechanic performed any repairs to fix the shifting problems you were having (ie, fluid and filter change, new conductor plate and switches, etc)? I second the previous comment to have someone else look at it, just to make sure you aren't getting the run around.
Regarding repainting your car, a cheap paint job will run you a grand or two and a good paint job could be upwards of $10k, it all depends on the quality. Have you checked into getting a vinyl wrap? Seems like this would be a safer way of getting the look you want without altering the original paint quality.

Pokey yes they did check a fluid levels and I can clearly feel the shifting issues. I will be taking it in for a second opinion. My belief is they are straight forward since he is suggesting I go to AAMCO.
I know the paint will not be cheap but am also thinking of adding a few kit parts for the bumper fenders and grille as well as new wheels. Just trying to kick it up a notch not totally tricked out my wife won't go for that
The wrap I don't know much about but am open for suggestions
Thanks for the input
